It seems like a lifetime ago because politics moves at the speed of light these days, but back in 2022, Democrats and major corporations were losing their minds over the so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill in Florida. As the claim went, Gov. Ron DeSantis was such an authoritarian, fascist dictator that he was literally banning people in his state from even whispering words synonymous with homosexuality.
Of course, there was nothing true about that claim. In actuality, the bill (now law) centered on parental rights regarding what their children were exposed to in schools. Specifically, it removed books like "Gender Queer," which included graphic comics of gay pedophilia, from library bookshelves and barred teachers from discussing sexuality with children.
Seems reasonable, right? But that didn't stop The Walt Disney Company from going to war with DeSantis over it, with the hand-wringing continuing even after they lost the war.

There were even some hilarious on-air moments, where various Disney properties, such as ESPN, held moments of silence for the "Don't Say Gay bill."

Today during the Women's NCAA Tournament, ESPN's Carolyn Peck and Courtney Lyle remained silent for two minutes in opposition of Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill.

Apparently, that moment of silence needed a disclaimer, though. You see, while its terrible and discriminatory to ban gay porn from schools, it's perfectly fine to build a theme park in an Islamic country that imprisons people for being gay.

But wait a second. I was assured, absolutely assured, that Disney cared deeply about the "LGBTQIA+" community. I was lectured repeatedly about the importance of inclusion and how the promotion of diversity was so important that it demanded parents tolerate their children being exposed to sexual content in schools. What changed?
The answer is that nothing changed. Disney's executives and their on-air personalities never actually cared about the "Don't Say Gay" law. They knew what it actually was, but they chose to lie because all they cared about was virtue signaling for the far left. Again, the cause is never the cause. It's a means to an end.
That's not to say that Disney isn't really into the LGBT thing and hasn't, for decades, made it a centerpiece of its brand. But it is to say that none of the decision makers or ratings generators at the company ever actually cared that much about what was happening in Florida. It was just about opposing Ron DeSantis because he's Ron DeSantis, and with this move to build a theme park in Abu Dhabi, Disney has torched its remaining credibility. As bad as its original position was, at least the company could hide behind claims of principle. No longer. They are hypocrites, and laughable ones at that.
