Kamala Harris Bungles the Pledge of Allegiance and JD Vance Trolls During Senate Swearing-In

January 3rd, 2024 marks the start of the 119th Congress, and Vice President Kamala Harris was on hand to swear in the new class of U.S. Senators. There's little doubt she wasn't looking forward to fulfilling her duties given how absent from the public eye she's been since losing the 2024 election to Donald Trump.

At one point, she had to face JD Vance on the Senate floor, who did just a bit of trolling. You know this dude was having a good time, and it only gets better for him in a few weeks.

Then came time to open up the new Senate term, and that required Harris to lead the body in the Pledge of Allegiance. Let's just say it didn't go off without a hitch.

The internet immediately had a blast with the vice president's bungling of something you'd think she would know by heart. I mean, "the flag" isn't exactly one of the harder parts to remember. It's pretty much the entire point given one is pledging allegiance to "the flag."

Jokes aside, I do think this is indicative who why Kamala Harris lost and the broader issue with her political career. Without going into all the salacious details, this is a woman who got her start in politics by committing adultery with Willie Brown, one of the most corrupt politicians in California history. He ended up handing her two lucrative board positions, something he later admitted benefited her politically. His political connections and the visibility he gave her were instrumental in setting her up to run for office.

I’ve been peppered with calls from the national media about my “relationship” with Kamala Harris, particularly since it became obvious that she was going to run for president. Most of them, I have not returned.

Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago. Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was Assembly speaker.

From there, Harris rode the Democratic Party machine to the top, turning checkered runs as the District Attorney of San Francisco and California Attorney General into a Senate seat. She then proceeded to accomplish nothing for two years except grandstanding over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's nomination.

Who can forget this classic?

The entire exchange turned out to be completely manufactured. There was nothing behind Harris' leading questions. No conversation had taken place. She completely made it up as a way to try to bait Kavanaugh. In the end, she failed at doing anything meaningful, but the press went nuts over her "I'm a prosecutor" act.

But hey, the press loved her, and that was enough to justify a presidential run. Of course, we all remember how that turned out. After starting the race as the odds-on favorite, having the most money and support, Harris didn't even make it to the Iowa caucuses, dropping out in late 2019. No worries, though. Harris had certain intersectional characteristics that Joe Biden needed on his ticket. Thus, she was saved from the ash heap of history.

Then there was her 2024 run for president. Because Biden didn't drop out of the race until July, Harris didn't have to win a single primary, and because she was the only viable choice (Democrats were never going to cast aside an intersectional vice president), she was showered with over a billion dollars in campaign cash. Never mind that the Biden administration had been an abject disaster. She was entitled to her own presidency. Well, until she wasn't. We all know how that turned out.

Are you starting to see how Harris not knowing the Pledge of Allegiance is a small indicator of something bigger? She is the emptiest of empty suits, an inauthentic, lazy politician who was handed everything only to finally run into a brick wall when she had to face an entire nation of voters. Watching her stumble during her last days in office is not just poetic. It's a microcosm of her career.
