Hit Piece on Ron DeSantis' College Years Drops, and I Can't Stop Laughing

While Gov. Ron DeSantis cruises to re-election in Florida, the press is doing its best to make his race against Charlie Crist somewhat competitive. They tried their hardest after Hurricane Ian hit, but DeSantis’ extreme competence quickly took that story off the front pages.

But alas a fresh hit piece has dropped, and it may be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen printed by a supposed news outlet. According to the Financial Times, DeSantis once used the phrase “thigh food” while in college in place of “Thai food.”

I know, it’s horrific stuff. It even elicited a “yikes” from ProPublica’s Alec MacGillis.

Imagine being a supposedly serious journalist and spending your time digging up third-hand claims of a college kid being goofy while in college. In this case, though, we aren’t even dealing with any serious allegations. Is the idea that DeSantis was a racist because he mispronounced “Thai?” Or that he’s a rabid sexual predator because he joked around with girls on dates?

Honestly, who the heck goes to print with something like that and doesn’t expect to get absolutely mercilessly mocked for it? The only thing that would make this more hilarious is if possible 2024 challengers to DeSantis picked it up as a way to snipe at him. But I don’t think anyone would be ridiculous enough to do that.

Let’s do a little comparison, shall we? When the Ashley Biden diary was revealed, it contained a first-hand account of Joe Biden showering with his young daughter, with the claim being that it scarred her and caused her future mental health issues. Did the Financial Times write that up? Did any major news outlet outside of the right do so? Of course, they didn’t.

But we are supposed to believe that DeSantis saying “thigh food” in college is incredibly newsworthy. You can’t do anything but laugh hysterically at this. It also shows how absolutely desperate these people are. They want DeSantis off the national stage because of the threat he poses to them long-term.

If the press weren’t a parody of themselves before, they certainly are now. Mock them because they deserved to be mocked.
