Socialist NYC Mayor Mamdani Rages Over Maduro Capture, Speed Dials Trump

Democratic Socialist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani has been in office for less than 80 hours, but already he’s watched as the U.S. military forcibly captured his fellow socialist comrade in arms, (now former) Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, and spirited him out of his country. Maduro and wife wife arrived Saturday in… the Big Apple, to face federal criminal charges in the Southern District of New York.

Somehow seems fitting, doesn’t it?

Zohran is, predictably, outraged that the United States would seek to take down a drug kingpin who had illicitly taken over the reins of power in a formerly great country.

His snippy tweet continued:

Unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law.

This blatant pursuit of regime change doesn’t just affect those abroad, it directly impacts New Yorkers, including tens of thousands of Venezuelans who call this city home. My focus is their safety and the safety of every New Yorker, and my administration will continue to monitor the situation and issue relevant guidance.

The problem with his little tantrum: the U.S., and many of our international partners, do not consider Maduro a legitimate leader of the South American country, and thus argue that the U.S. is fully within its rights to take action:

Mamdani had more than just angry tweets, however — he phoned President Trump to express his outrage over the administration’s actions. I would have loved to sit in on that call.

It would seem as if Trump replied with something along the lines of, "Thanks for your input, have a nice day" (or maybe, "bless your heart"):

“I called the president and spoke with him directly to register my opposition to this act,” Mr. Mamdani said at an unrelated news conference on Saturday, adding that he told Mr. Trump that he was “opposed to a pursuit of regime change, to the violation of federal and international law.”

The mayor declined to characterize the president’s response when pressed by reporters. His aides said that Mr. Mamdani had initiated the call earlier on Saturday afternoon and that it was “brief.”

“I registered my opposition, I made it clear and we left it at that,” Mr. Mamdani said.

Yeah, I bet it was brief.

His post on X took a lot of heat, too, because users noted that Maduro’s socialist policies are exactly what ruined Venezuela — just as Mamdani’s proposals would ruin New York City. Socialism is an experiment that almost invariably leads to failure and tragedy.

Well said.

Editor’s Note: Zohran Mamdani is an avowed Democratic Socialist whose ideas are toxic to the American way.
