JD Vance Delivers Devastating Post-Mortem on the Schumer Shutdown: 'All for Literally Nothing'

Well, the Democrats’ kabuki theater desperation ploy, otherwise known as the Schumer Shutdown, is finally over, and life can begin going back to normal. Hopefully, the air traffic and travel situation will soon stabilize – in time for the Thanksgiving holiday – as TSA agents and air traffic controllers actually get paid for doing their jobs. We can now rest assured that the brave men and women of our armed forces will continue to receive their paychecks, too.

The big question going around today is: was it all worth it to the Democrats? (I argued emphatically no here.)

JD Vance agrees and thinks the whole junior-high production was a waste of time. The vice president sat with Fox News’ Sean Hannity for an interview that will air Thursday evening, but some clips have already been released. Mostly, all the Dems accomplished was increasing the stress level in America, he argued:

"Here’s what the Democrats actually accomplished. They caused a lot of stress for our troops, they made our air traffic controllers not get paid, they caused a lot of flight cancellations, they had a lot of people thinking they weren’t going to get their food benefits. All for literally nothing," Vance told Fox News host Sean Hannity in an interview set to air Thursday.

What’s worse, the deal they finally accepted was basically the same as the one being offered all along:

Vance claimed the House deal that ended the shutdown was identical to one top Democrats rejected weeks earlier.

"We could have struck this exact deal 45 days ago," the vice president said. "In fact, we met with Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer and said we will pass this exact deal. They said no."

Holy Smokes: Trump Makes Good on Promise to Those Who Worked During Schumer Shutdown

The VP added that the president knew the Democrats would eventually cave, because they essentially had boxed themselves in and had no other options:

The vice president went on to praise President Donald Trump’s leadership during the 43-day standoff, saying they "knew this was going to happen."

"The president of the United States said every day eventually the Democrats were going to realize this was an absurd position, we’ve got to reopen the government and that’s what they did," Vance said.

President Trump signed legislation to fund the government again Wednesday night. He signaled Monday the government would open soon, as consequences of a lapse in funding continued to snowball, including missed paychecks for federal workers and airline delays stemming from air traffic controller staffing shortages.

The bill ensures that funding will continue until January 30, 2026, while lawmakers bicker over a funding measure for fiscal year 2026. But what happens if they haven’t come to a new agreement before that date? Will we have to go through all this silliness again? Will the Democrats try to hold America hostage over policies that were soundly rejected in the November 2024 elections?

We can only hope they learned their lesson with this failure. I'm certainly not going to hold my breath, however, after we've seen the insanity they're capable of.
