The U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Erik Siebert, resigned Friday after his months-long investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James' potential mortgage fraud had not led to charges.

Trump has been clear on his dissatisfaction with Siebert, saying on Friday in the Oval Office that he wanted him out, and that the support the attorney received from two "bad news" Democrat senators, Virginia’s Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, proved that he was untrustworthy.

Seibert wrote that it was time for him to leave:

"This evening [Friday], I submitted my resignation as Interim US Attorney for EDVA. For the last eight months, I have had the pleasure of leading the finest and most exceptional of DOJ employees, who care deeply about our nation and our EDVA community," he wrote, referring to the Eastern District of Virginia.

Donald Trump has a very different view of what went down, however, posting to social media Saturday that he had in fact fired Seibert:

The post reads:

Today I withdrew the Nomination of Erik Siebert as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, when I was informed that he received the UNUSUALLY STRONG support of the two absolutely terrible, sleazebag Democrat Senators, from the Great State of Virginia. He didn’t quit, I fired him! Next time let him go in as a Democrat, not a Republican. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT

Whichever is the case, Seibert is gone for now. An interesting thing to note in one mainstream media report is the sob-story narrative that will doubtless be put on auto-repeat by the Democrats:

The administration's effort to oust him from the job represents a further erosion of norms meant to insulate the Justice Department from White House influence on prosecutorial decisions. The move is likely to deepen concerns that the department — already investigating other public figures Trump regards as foes — is being weaponized by a White House seeking to have its prosecutorial powers used for purposes of retribution.

Where were you folks from 2020-2024, might I ask, as Joe Biden and then-Attorney General Merrick Garland systemically turned the Department of Justice into a weapon against Americans who held different opinions than the administration?

Nowhere to be found, that’s where you were.

There is something funny about watching Letitia James whine that the investigation is a "baseless retaliation" when she has built an entire career out of “getting” Trump, regardless of the facts. The civil fraud lawsuit she filed and somehow won against Trump over real estate dealings was one of the most banana-republic examples of “justice” I have ever seen. She tried him on charges of overvaluing his assets to obtain better terms on loans and insurance—yet not a single bank said they lost money and they all agreed they’d do business with him again. It was a crime without a victim, and it was ludicrous.

She’s a corrupt prosecutor through and through, regardless of whether these fraud allegations stick.

The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject their extremist agenda.
