Do you ever wake up, read the news, and think to yourself, what country are we living in?

First, there was the absurd $83.3 million judgment against Donald Trump in the E. Jean Carroll case, where Carroll as a witness made Christine Blasey Ford look credible – an almost impossible feat.

Then, the clearly partisan Judge Arthur Engoron came down with a ludicrous $355 million fine on Trump in Letitia James’ witchhunt against the former president over alleged real estate fraud. It was a case in which there were no victims and no losses to banks or other creditors, making one wonder, where's the actual crime?

Pundits on both sides were awed by the overreach.

But now it gets worse -- James is openly mocking the former president on social media and trolling him about the disturbing fine, which grows ever larger by the minute due to interest charges piling up. Think about this: an elected official, sworn into office to protect the people and serve her constituents, is taunting the former president and front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.

Is this for real?

She started with a post after the judgment was initially thrown down, a tweet that as of this writing she has pinned to her profile page (meaning it permanently appears at the top):

Now you'd think that would be enough gloating, but no -- James continues to troll the former president in the name of "justice." She keeps posting updated figures including the accrued interest. Disgusting, juvenile behavior:

The power-hungry partisan has also been threatening to seize Trump's assets if he doesn't pay up immediately.

Ask yourself, is this how a law enforcement official is supposed to behave? Are state prosecutors supposed to be openly partisan, vindicative toward political opponents, and unapologetically devoted to crushing their ideological adversaries?

The answer of course is, no. Unfortunately, we have seen all too much of this as Trump Derangement Syndrome has taken over attorney generals, special prosecutors, and the top echelons of the weaponized Department of Justice.

It doesn't matter if you are a Trump supporter or a detractor, this distortion of America's legal system should worry you. They may win short-term victories, but the long-term damage to our country is incalculable.

It's hard not to feel like we're headed down this road:
