President Donald Trump is getting fed up with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who seemingly has no interest in achieving peace with Ukraine. As Trump said Sunday while speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, “he'll talk so beautifully, then he'll bomb people at night.”

On Monday, the president met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House and announced new measures against the Russian Federation if they continue their bellicose ways.
He plans on upping efforts to get arms to Ukraine, and also vowed severe economic consequences for Russia if they fail to work toward peace:
“We’re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don’t have a deal in 50 days,” Trump said. “Tariffs at about 100% you’d call them secondary tariffs. You know what that means.”
A White House official clarified to CNN that when the president referred to “secondary tariffs,” he meant 100% tariffs on Russia and secondary sanctions on other countries that buy Russian oil.
As for the weapons, in addition to Patriot missile batteries — the top item on Kyiv’s wish list and one Trump said Sunday was vital to Ukraine’s defenses — the US could also sell short-range missiles, Howitzer rounds and medium-range air-to-air missiles to NATO members, which would then be transferred to Ukraine, a person familiar with the deliberations said.

The president has explained that Putin is targeting civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure despite claiming he is willing to negotiate. The president said he felt like he had a deal about four times. But Putin is just delaying.
Clearly, Putin is undeterred in his ambition to conquer Ukraine at any cost on his way to expanding his imperialist ambitions, which Putin has not been shy about declaring. President Trump is trying to bring this war to an end.

Rutte was also pleased with the announcement:
Rutte described the deal as really big, confirming that the weapons would be paid for by European nations, a decision the alliance's leader described as "totally logical". The value of the weapons amounts to billions of dollars.

While meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President Trump announced he's run out of patience trying to negotiate with Russia, and that if a peace deal with Ukraine is not agreed on within 50 days, he will impose secondary tariffs at 100%, effectively economically crippling Russia.
"If we do not have a deal in 50 days, they'll be at 100%....and that's the way it is. It could not be more simple."
Trump's frustration with Putin has been growing as the Russian leader shows no sign of backing down (profanity alert):
And, at least in the view of some US officials, providing Ukraine with a surge in new weaponry could send a signal to Moscow that Trump is serious about his frustrations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who the US leader accused of peddling “bullshit” last week.
“He’s seriously frustrated with Putin,” a US official said. “He wants to show he’s serious about ending the war, and maybe this will show Putin it’s time to start negotiating.”
Putin continues to thumb his nose at the world while making no serious moves toward ending the war they started in Ukraine. We'll see if hitting him hard in the wallet changes his thinking.
