As my colleague Nick Arama reported, Alec Baldwin keeps making the tragedy of the shooting death—at his hands—of cinemaphotographer Halyna Hutchins about himself.
He’s been posting self-serving tweets on social media, blaming everyone else for what happened on the set of the low-budget Western film “Rust,” attacking Trump supporters who he said might target him because the former president criticized him over the shooting, and even implying that the family of the Hutchins wasn’t close to her.
As we reported, criminal charges against the actor were dropped after it was revealed the gun used in the shooting had been modified before being delivered to set, although future charges are still possible.
The movie has resumed production, and it didn’t take long for the star to handle a firearm incorrectly again:

Kennedy is the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy and wife Ethel and the sister of current presidential candidate and anti-vaccine advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. She was nominated for an Oscar for her 2014 film “Last Days in Vietnam” which told the story of America’s last chaotic days in the country as the war came to an end.
The filmmaker has been seen tailing the actor, as DailyMail reports:
DailyMail.com can now disclose that the blonde mom-of-three is currently in Montana, where she has been repeatedly pictured with Baldwin – including at Bozeman airport where the pair were seen getting off a United flight from Denver together.
On Wednesday morning, she was also seen directing her all-female crew outside Baldwin’s New York brownstone as her crew filmed him hugging wife Hilaria, 39, and their seven children goodbye ahead of his trip to Montana.
Baldwin, 65, will now be in Livingston, Montana, until May 22 to complete his movie Rust after production was shut down in October 2021 following the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, during a scene.
“Rust” attorney Melina Spadone claimed that this time the filming, which is slated to wrap by the end of May, will be safe this time around:
“The production will continue to utilize union crew members and will bar any use of working weapons and any form of ammunition. Live ammunition is — and always was — prohibited on set. Each and every one of us is wholeheartedly dedicated to realizing Halyna’s vision and paying tribute to her artistry,” she said in a statement.
Director Joel Souza, who was injured in the shooting at a New Mexico movie ranch, returns to direct the reboot. He says somehow this documentary will honor Hutchins’ legacy:
Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team is joining former cast and crew to complete what Halyna and I started. My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud.
Meanwhile, a second documentary is also underway. Two friends of Hutchins, “Circus of Books” director Rachel Mason and producer Julee Metz, are making their own film about the late cinematographer with the cooperation of her husband Matthew Hutchins.
It frankly seems creepy that Baldwin is making a behind-the-scenes documentary about himself and his jinxed movie. If I had to decide which of the two projects to watch, I’d see the one made by Hutchins’ friends.
