Alec Baldwin is a vile human being.
After he shot Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza on the set of the movie “Rust,” anytime he talked about the shooting he seemed fully concentrated on himself, not on the harm that the victims and their families suffered. He’s tried to blame everyone else for what happened, painting himself as the victim, claiming that he was told it was a “cold gun,” yet not taking the responsibility for not checking the weapon to determine if it was safe. He talked about how this cost him a job, that this had taken “years off his life.” He even attacked Trump supporters suggesting that they might target him because former President Donald Trump criticized him over the shooting.
No, Alec, the shooting took “years off” the life of Halyna Hutchins — she was the victim here, along with Souza. Her parents and sister sued Baldwin, but his response was to move to dismiss the suit, then in a despicable move, claim that the family was “distanced” from her so he could evade any responsibility to them.
Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter in January, but the charges were reduced from a five-year possible prison term to one that only exposed him to a potential 18-month term.
After the news broke on Thursday that the involuntary manslaughter charges were going to be dismissed against Baldwin, the actor posted a picture of himself leaning on his wife, Hilaria, saying, “I owe everything I have to this woman,” and thanking his lawyer Luke Nikas.

Now, I get that they are likely relieved, but everything with them is a performance, fully focused on them, even this. What happened to the time-honored statement, “We’re happy that this occurred, we should be remembering Halyna.” Period. End of sentence. No, they have to show how they, the “victims,” have made it through.
But I wouldn’t celebrate just yet. As I explained in my prior story, according to the Los Angeles Times, the dismissal may be temporary as they are investigating new information about the gun. They’re dismissing without prejudice, which will allow them to file charges again if they so choose.
The prosecutor has now essentially confirmed that report.
In a statement, Special Prosecutor on the Santa Fe, New Mexico case Kari Morrissey told CNN on Thursday, “It is not appropriate for me to make extra judicial comments at this time.”
She continued, “The time will come when I will be able to fully comment but that time is not now. The dismissal against Mr. Baldwin will be temporary pending further investigation.”
So whether he’s fully clear remains to be seen as the investigators look into the question raised about the gun being modified. Charges of involuntary manslaughter are still pending against the armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. Assistant director David Halls, who handed Baldwin the gun, already took a deal, pleading to a misdemeanor count of the negligent use of a deadly weapon.
