It's official: Florida's Palm Beach International Airport is now President Donald J. Trump International Airport, and the aviation world is catching up. The rename has been in the works for months, driven by state legislation, federal action, and the straightforward reality that Palm Beach is Trump's home turf — Mar-a-Lago sits just a few miles from the runways. The name change takes effect July 1; the code flips from PBI to DJT on July 9.
The airport code for the Palm Beach airport will change from PBI to DJT on July 9th. This follows the airport being renamed for President Trump.

A final rule in the Federal Register sealed it on May 14.
The Florida House passed the renaming bill 81–30, and Gov. Ron DeSantis signed it into law on March 30. The state allocated $2.75 million for signage, branding, and operational changes needed to meet the July 1 effective date. Eric Trump marked the occasion of the renaming on X:
Palm Beach International Airport is now officially…. “President Donald J. Trump International Airport!”

On the federal side, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL-21) introduced companion legislation in March to codify the name change at the national level, and formally direct the FAA to coordinate with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on the DJT code.
"President Donald J. Trump's impact on our nation will transcend our time — a historic legacy of dedication and commitment toward the American people," Mast said. "He's called Palm Beach County 'home' for many years, and this designation reflects our gratitude for his public service and leadership."
The county formally requested the FAA update its federal records on May 4. The FAA didn't wait for Mast's bill to clear the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. It moved administratively, revising its airspace descriptions and database entries, quietly and without a public comment period.

None of this changes anything in the sky. No flight operations, routes, or procedures are affected. The FAA is simply updating its records to match reality on the ground.
The opposition has been predictable. Democrats in Tallahassee spent the session complaining about the cost. Florida Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell called it "five million of your taxpayer dollars on renaming an airport," and Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL-22) added:
"At a time when families are struggling with the cost of groceries, housing, and health care, this is what they're focused on?"
A Palm Beach County pilot filed a lawsuit in April claiming the state overstepped its authority and that changing PBI's decades-old code creates safety confusion in time-sensitive flight operations. The FAA hasn't responded to those claims.
Meanwhile, the airport serving millions of travelers a year, one of South Florida's primary economic engines, is about to carry the name of the president who has called Palm Beach home for decades. The signs are getting updated, the databases are being revised, and the code is changing. Whatever the critics want to call it, the legacy is getting written into the airspace.
Come July 9, 2026, it's DJT.
