New Report Says the People Who Favor Political Violence Might Not Be Who You Think

Traditionally, Americans looked at college graduates with a hint of respect. It's still a big deal to be able to say that you are the first one in your family to be a college graduate. But as we are well aware, what you will need to work in your chosen field is not what is being taught the most in colleges and universities. In the wake of a third assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, a new report shows that the mindset being encouraged on the nation's campuses is darker and way more dangerous than we think.

A 2025 report from the Skeptic Research Center showed that those who hold graduate degrees are roughly twice as likely to think that “violence is often necessary to create social change.” A disturbing 40 percent of those who hold master's degrees say that political violence could be justified to bring about social change. Among those who hold a bachelor's degree, the number was around 26 percent who agreed with the above statement. For those who had completed some college or who hold an associate's degree, the number was roughly 20 percent, and for those who had a high school diploma or less, just 23 percent agreed with the statement.

The alleged suspect in Saturday night's shooting in Washington, D.C., at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, 31-year-old Cole Allen, graduated with a master's degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). So, on paper, he's a smart guy. However, in a rambling manifesto that used many of the words and phrases used by mainstream media, Allen wrote, “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”

The report tends to blow up a possible narrative on the left of the educated versus the uneducated, but it also shows some other troublesome results. Nearly half of Gen Zers, at 49 percent, who say they are liberal, are okay with political violence, compared with Baby Boomers, many of whom came of age during the Vietnam War, at just 14 percent. America also seems to be churning out generations of males who say political violence is justified. Gen Z males came in at 48 percent, and Millennial males at 46 percent. It also speaks volumes about the violent anti-Israel pro-Hamas protests that broke out on several college and university campuses following the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamas. A 2022 survey of Harvard faculty, well before that attack, showed that 80 percent of respondents identified as "liberal" or "very liberal." Four years later, we can only guess what that ratio is now.

Is it safe to assume at this point that the longer you attend a college or university, the more chance you have that you will become indoctrinated into left-wing ideology and believe political violence is somehow justified? We already know the answer.
