New: Republicans Put Leftists on the Record With Senate Vote on Biological Men in Women's Sports

As we wrote earlier, the United States Senate is debating and voting as part of a rare weekend session with the ultimate aim of hammering into law free and fair elections across the country with things like voter ID required at the polls, among other common sense items, in the SAVE America Act. As readers likely have seen over time, the Democrats seem to take women for granted for their votes, something that may prove incorrect in the upcoming midterms, after some of today's votes putting them on record.

My colleague Ward Clark shared the news on Saturday afternoon, and I wrote about the preamble of a press conference by members of the Senate GOP leadership on the full agenda that encompasses more than voter integrity safeguards in SAVE America Act. The amendments will include votes on ditching unsolicited mail-in ballots for every household in the country, banning "transgender" care for children, and ending men in women's sports in schools.

Senate GOP/Thune: More on the Agenda for Crucial Votes Saturday Than SAVE America Act

The vote on the latter has now happened. Fox News' Chad Pergram reported that the amendment failed, 49-41, along party lines:

Here are more details on the Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) amendment vote:

Senate Democrats blocked a move by Senate Republicans to modify a Trump-backed voter ID bill with a provision that would halt men in women’s sports.

The amendment to the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act from Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., was one of several tweaks to the legislation requested by President Donald Trump.

Tuberville’s amendment could have codified Trump’s earlier executive order from last year to ban transgender women from participating in women’s sports — a culture war flashpoint between Republicans and Democrats that, unless turned into law, will likely be reversed should a Democratic administration take over in 2028.

Ten senators did not vote, and here's a full list of those pols, along with who chose to vote nay:

It reads:

**The 41 senators who voted "No" on the cloture motion** (failing to advance the Tuberville-Blackburn amendment #4421 to the SAVE America Act, which would have withheld federal funds from schools allowing biological males/transgender women to compete in women's/girls' sports) were all the present Democrats plus the two Independents who caucus with them.

This was a strict party-line vote:

**49 Republicans voted Yes**; the amendment needed 60 votes to invoke cloture but fell short at **49-41** (with 10 senators not voting).

This matches the real-time reporting on the March 21, 2026, vote and official Senate records. Democrats framed their opposition as protecting transgender rights and Title IX inclusivity; Republicans called it essential for fairness in women's sports.

Tuberville talked to Fox News Digital ahead of the vote on how important passing the SAVE America Act, to insure only Americans can vote in U.S. elections:

"I would do whatever it took to get this passed. This is probably one of the most important bills that's come through here in a long, long time. It’s just pitting Americans versus non-Americans."

While the vote did not overcome the filibuster with 60 yea votes, it does something else; it puts the Dems on record that they refuse to protect women's sports.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who co-sponsored the legislation with Tuberville, spoke about what this says about Democrats' priorities. It isn't keeping women and girls safe, and protecting their Constitutional rights:

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Joe Gruters said in a statement after the amendment vote:

"Men should not compete in women’s sports. It is unfair, unsafe, and a direct assault on equal opportunity for female athletes. President Trump has made it clear that women’s sports are for women, but Senate Democrats voted to let men take roster spots, playing time, championships, and scholarships away from female competitors. Democrats are rejecting basic fairness and abandoning the very women they claim to support.”
