As we wrote earlier on Wednesday, President Donald Trump made remarks at the 2025 U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, D.C. My colleague Bob Hoge brought some of those to you all in his piece, in which the president took a stern tone towards current Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and the central bank as a whole, taking time during the segment of his speech to direct what he was saying to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on one or two points.

Hoge wrote:

Although the president touted the Gulf Kingdom’s agreement to invest a trillion dollars into the U.S., he also managed to zing the Fed chair over his enormously expensive renovation projects and his slow pace in raising interest rates since POTUS took office in January.

...

The president also blasted Powell for his slow pace in lowering interest rates, and told Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent he’d love to fire the Fed chair post haste.

And indeed, most of Trump's speech had to do with the economy, with the opening stretch of his remarks focusing on world trade. He reminded the crowd of international leaders and investors that "under the Trump Administration, America is back — and America is open for business."

Part of that appears to be represented by an upcoming fulfillment by GE Aerospace of "dozens of new airplane engines" for Saudi commercial airliners, which Trump mentioned:

The Saudis "announced [on Tuesday] the number that they will be investing in the United States" is $1 trillion, which the president called "an honor":

He also said that companies from the two nation will work together on "infrastructure construction" related to Liquified Natural Gas energy sector:

Then the president moved on to a recent U.S. military move that "lifted a dark cloud away from" Saudi Arabia, by "obliterating" Iran's nuke facilities. He also hinted at a potential future deal with Iran:

But Pres. Trump said he had an announcement on a partnership he had not expected because of the meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman - supporting efforts to save Sudan:

"It was not on my charts to be involved in [Sudan], I just thought it was something that was crazy and out of control," Trump said. "But I just see how important that is to you [gestures to MBS], and to a lot of your friends in the room...We're going to start working on Sudan."

He shared more details on the U.S. involvement in Sudan on his Truth Social account, writing that the US will help, at the request of the Saudis, to "stabilize" Sudan, which is suffering from "atrocities," through the the cooperation and cash of wealthy countries "in the region":

In case you can't see the post, it reads:

Tremendous atrocities are taking place in Sudan. It has become the most violent place on Earth and, likewise, the single biggest Humanitarian Crisis. Food, doctors, and everything else are desperately needed. Arab Leaders from all over the World, in particular the highly respected Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, who has just left the United States, have asked me to use the power and influence of the Presidency to bring an immediate halt to what is taking place in Sudan. It is considered a Great Civilization and Culture, unfortunately gone bad, but one that can be fixed with the cooperation and coordination of Countries, including those in the Region of tremendous Wealth, who want this to happen. We will work with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other Middle Eastern partners to get these atrocities to end, while at the same time stabilizing Sudan. Thank you for your attention to this matter. GOD BLESS THE WORLD!
