Donald Trump spoke at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, and although it wasn’t billed as a roast of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, it might as well have been. Although the president touted the Gulf Kingdom’s agreement to invest a trillion dollars into the U.S., he also managed to zing the Fed chair over his enormously expensive renovation projects and his slow pace in raising interest rates since POTUS took office in January.
He said he thought the job of the chairman sounded pretty cushy:
Love the fed job - to me, it's the easiest job in the world. You play golf for 28, 29 days, then you go and make a little speech, tell everybody - in the case of the current guy - the wrong information, because he has no clue, but if you have good instincts, you know, it's all based on instincts...
I see they want to hire 3,000 economists. Three thousand to report to the Fed chairman. What are they going to do, take all this information... 3,000 economists?!
Watch:
🚨 LMFAO! President Trump has all the business leaders CRACKING UP right now on Jerome Powell🤣

"[The Fed] is building a basement into the POTOMAC RIVER! I could've told them that's too expensive!"
He's hilarious!

The president continued, blasting Powell for spending lavishly on reconstruction when the job, in his view, should cost a fraction of that amount:
That's why they're spending $4 billion on renovating a building that should have cost $25 million bucks to do. They should have spent $25 million. They're building a basement into the Potomac River. I could have told them, "That's very tough to do, and it doesn't work, and it's very expensive, but they're up to four billion dollars headed by this clown, but we have 3,000, think of it - they want to hire 3,000 economists.
Where, one can’t help but wonder, are all the Democrats who claim democracy is in danger because of Trump’s privately-funded White House ballroom project? Haven’t heard a peep.
The president also blasted Powell for his slow pace in lowering interest rates, and told Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent he’d love to fire the Fed chair post haste:
TRUMP: Wish I Could Fire Jerome Powell

While touting his administration’s first 10-month successes at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum, President Donald Trump reiterated his displeasure with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s unwillingness to lower interest rates:
“ I'd… pic.twitter.com/G7qBnirHpk
“ I'd love to fire his a–. He should be fired. [The] guy's grossly incompetent. And he should be sued for spending $4 billion to build a little building. I'm building a ballroom that's gonna cost a tiny fraction of that, and it's bigger than the whole thing put together.”
Mr. Powell, who has been the subject of Trump's repeated criticism in the past, might want to skip watching this one.
