It's a well-known tactic among Democratic presidential nominees that they pick a running mate who's dumber than they are, as a sort of life insurance policy. Bill Clinton picked Al Gore. Barack Obama chose Joe Biden because old Joe was the only guy in the Senate dumber than Barack Obama. Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris, not only because she was a "woman of color," but because she was dumber even than Joe. And then, Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Since the Harris/Walz ticket lost catastrophically in 2024, Tim Walz seems determined to prove why he landed on that bottom tier of dumb. In his latest, he attacked the recent Supreme Court Title IX ruling, allowing states to make sure that girls' and women's sports teams only included, you know, girls and women. What's more, he did it on X, the nation's bulletin board, for all to witness.
As the Supreme Court says states can be cruel to trans kids, my message is clear:

Here in Minnesota, we stand with and value our trans neighbors and youth.
Walz called the ruling "cruel."
Minnesota’s Democratic Gov. Tim Walz faced backlash from conservatives on social media after denouncing Tuesday’s Supreme Court ruling on transgender athletes in women’s sports by calling it "cruel."
"As the Supreme Court says states can be cruel to trans kids, my message is clear: Here in Minnesota, we stand with and value our trans neighbors and youth," Walz posted on X as the Supreme Court was ruling in favor of West Virginia and Idaho against trans athletes who sued to gain access to girls' sports.
Walz’s comment was immediately blasted on social media by conservatives, many of whom are from Minnesota.
That's as clueless a piece of self-defenestration as I've seen in quite a while.

Translation of Governor Walz's remarks into English from... whatever that was:
"Here in Minnesota, we stand with and value our boys who are trying to cheat their way into titles, accolades, and recognition they can't get honestly, by pretending to be girls."
The backlash from Minnesota Republicans was swift and brutal.
John Nagel, a Republican candidate for Congress from MN-05, had this to say:
Once again you disregard the laws of America. You don't support women's rights. You don't stand for anything .You are the face of everything that is wrong with the Democratic party. So at this point your opinion means nothing. Parents and coaches will start suing. And the DOJ will…

Once again you disregard the laws of America. You don't support women's rights. You don't stand for anything .You are the face of everything that is wrong with the Democratic party. So at this point your opinion means nothing. Parents and coaches will start suing.
And the DOJ will add it to their list of law suits against Minnesota. If you don't comply. So take your overblown ego and take a trip back to China and stay there. One more thing, I find it hard to believe you care about anything especially children.
Julia Coleman, a Republican state senator from Carver County, weighed in:
What’s cruel is making a teenage girl, already uncomfortable in her own skin, change in a locker room next to a naked boy. What’s cruel is letting our girls get the s*it kicked out of them by biological males on the field and lose out on scholarships and more chances to compete.… https://t.co/RjUI2QTpwr

What’s cruel is making a teenage girl, already uncomfortable in her own skin, change in a locker room next to a naked boy. What’s cruel is letting our girls get the s*it kicked out of them by biological males on the field and lose out on scholarships and more chances to compete. What’s cruel is putting your base above female safety and opportunities.
There's a lot more where those came from.
Tim Walz, sitting on that bottom rung of the Dumb Ladder, will never get it. What's cruel is making girls and women, who have worked and trained and sweated and forgone social events with friends, take second place to a boy, who has all of the biological advantages that come with an XY chromosome pair. What's cruel is making those girls and women share locker rooms and showers with those boys. That's what's cruel.
The Supreme Court got this decision completely and unambiguously correct. Now, perhaps, we can start to slam the door on this hideously unfair, and yes, cruel practice.
