The new VC-25B Bridge aircraft, which is intended to see service as the new Air Force One, has arrived at Joint Base Andrews. There, it will undergo test flights to validate safety, security, and communications gear - nothing but the best, of course, for the President of the United States of America. It's a beauty, too.

The new bird just got a new paint job, too. The United States Air Force, which operates all of the aircraft that serve as Air Force One, has some details of the new Freedom Bird.

The Air Force’s VC-25B Bridge aircraft has officially arrived at the Presidential Airlift Group and will commence its initial commissioning flights, marking the successful delivery of a secure, modified executive platform. Fresh from receiving its new red, white, and blue livery and the final government modifications, the aircraft has entered service to provide critical, secure continuity for the commander in chief.

The delivery of the Bridge aircraft fulfills an imperative to relieve pressure on the aging VC-25A fleet as heavy maintenance cycles extend, safeguarding the continuity of presidential airlift operations until the long-term Boeing VC-25B enters service.

“The safety and security of the commander in chief is our highest priority," said Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink. "From the beginning, we meticulously evaluated every requirement to accelerate delivery while maintaining the high standards expected of the presidential mission. This effort proves that the U.S. Air Force can move fast without sacrificing quality, security, or reliability."

Wow. Just wow.

This is a big deal, and it's important, no matter how much the left may whine about it.

Why is it important? Here's why, and I'm going to tell you: Because America.

Sure, plenty of national leaders fly commercial, often on their own country's national airline. Some of them have small private jets to get around in. That's fine. They may look askance at the USA and our big, beautiful Air Force One. Too bad. So sad. Their lack of resources to ferry their leadership around the planet in style, safety, and security isn't our problem. Let the leaders of the various little countries of Europe diddle around with their passenger rails and commercial economy seating.

We're the United States of America, baby. Whatever anyone else does, we do it bigger, louder, more colorful, with the aircraft equivalent of a John Philip Sousa march thrown in. Oh, and yes, the President of the United States not only flies around the globe in the greatest presidential aircraft ever, but he also is preceded by a fleet of cargo haulers, bringing along with other people and vehicles the armored presidential limo, the Beast. Because we're the United States of America, the originators of the philosophy of "go big or go home," as every European who has recently driven an American pickup truck or seen a Buc-ee's or an American grocery store has just learned.

As far as Air Force One is concerned, no matter who the president is, his airplane is the biggest and best; it's a red, white, and blue symbol of American exceptionalism. It's an announcement, all on its own, whenever it lands in some foreign country: "America is here." It's like a certain president, walking into a room full of foreign leaders, announcing, "I'm the boss."

And that's just how it should be.
