Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), on Sunday, was rushed to the hospital with an undisclosed "mystery ailment." His condition is, as of this writing, unknown.
Retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell was mysteriously whisked to the hospital Sunday morning for unknown reasons, and his current condition is not publicly known.
“Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care,” a spokesperson for McConnell told The Post.
McConnell’s spokesperson declined to give more details about the senator’s hospitalization.
The 84-year-old former Senate GOP leader has long suffered from a string of health-related issues even as he has continued to ask sharp questions during committee hearings as he serves out the remainder of his seventh term.
The Kentucky Republican was previously hospitalized in February with flu-like symptoms.
These may very well all be nothing more than signs of advanced age. The brilliant men who penned our Constitution likely didn't envision a Senator staying in office until his age can be measured in geological eons, but that seems to be where we are now. Senator McConnell has announced he is not seeking another term and will be stepping down in January of 2027 when his current term ends, but this makes one wonder if he might not be well-advised to step down sooner.

This is far from the first time we've had reason to doubt the former Majority Leader's health and well-being.
In 2023, McConnell (R-Ky.) made headlines for freezing up several times mid-speech after suffering a concussion and minor rib fracture earlier that year from a fall at a fundraiser at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, DC.
It was later revealed that McConnell had suffered two other tumbles earlier that year.
McConnell has often been seen in a wheelchair in recent months, as he serves out the remainder of his time in the Senate.
McConnell served as the Senate GOP’s leader from 2007 through early 2025, rendering him the longest party leader in the upper chamber’s history. Republicans tapped Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) as his successor.
The Kentucky sage announced last year that he would not vie for an eighth term in the Senate.
Senator McConnell has been drawing a fair amount of opprobrium from President Trump and other Republicans in the Senate for his opposition to the SAVE America Act, along with Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Thom Tillis (R-NC).
Could Senator McConnell's condition simply be that he's outlived his "best by" date? The only member of the Senate older than Senator McConnell is Chuck Grassley (R-IA), 92, who has the distinction of being the Republican who has remained the longest in office. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), is, like Senator McConnell, also 84. Senators Angus King (I-ME) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) are both 80. In the House of Representatives, we have Republican Hal Rogers (KY-05), 88, and Democrat Maxine Waters (CA-43), 86. The District of Columbia's non-voting delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton, is 87.
It may well be time for some new blood in these states/districts.
