Massive Florida Sting Nets 249 Illegal Immigrants: More Ghosts Lurking

Some states may coddle and protect illegal aliens, and some state governors may even seek to hide illegal aliens from federal immigration authorities. Not so in Ron DeSantis's Florida. A recent sweep of the Sunshine State's highways by Florida law enforcement has resulted in the roundup of a reported 249 illegal aliens, who are being handed over to federal authorities for, we presume, repatriation. In any case, that's 249 illegal aliens caught.

Law enforcement officers from across Florida are teaming up on increasingly coordinated and successful efforts to arrest illegal immigrants along the state’s roadsides.

This month, Fox News Digital rode along with troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) on its largest partnership yet, dubbed Operation 9.

During the three-day sweep, FHP teamed up with five other federal, state and local agencies.

After three days, 249 illegal immigrants had been captured, processed and handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

That's 249 illegal aliens in one of the states that's least accepting of illegal aliens, and yet, there they were; this makes one wonder just how many more are out there, in more illegal-friendly states like Minnesota and California.

And here's the really concerning part of this Florida sweep:

And many handcuffed on the shoulders of South Florida highways were "ghosts," said Lt. Ramin Sulaiman, assistant commander of the FHP Immigration Enforcement Section.

What’s alarming, he said, is "we have no records for them, no accountability of who they are."

And that’s what his team sees every day in their routine work patrolling the state’s highways.

More than 1 million immigrants who came into the country illegally during the Biden administration told immigration officials at the border that they were headed to Florida, Sulaiman said. Then, they were released.

We've known for some time about the Biden administration's neglect of the border and ignoring of federal immigration law. But incidents like this make one wonder if the mess isn't far worse than suspected. Florida, as noted above, isn't exactly the best place to hide out if you're in the country illegally. Governor DeSantis and Florida law enforcement have set out to find and catch illegal aliens with a will, and unlike some other state law enforcement agencies, Florida police are quick to hand the illegals over to federal officials for repatriation. And yet, 249 were caught wandering Florida's highways, and many of them were "ghosts." No ID. No indication as to where they came from or how they got here.

And, once again, the photos accompanying the Fox News report show them to be young, unaccompanied men.

There are just too many unknowns here for comfort. There are too many unpleasant places in the world that these "ghosts" may have come from. There are too many things that they could be up to, and none of them are of benefit to American citizens. And we don't know how many more of these "ghosts" are out there.

Florida's state and local police have and are doing great work here, and they deserve our thanks. But it was Democrat governance that made this happen. Democrats, if ever given the opportunity, will throw open the borders again. And again, another flood of ghosts will enter the country, to go who knows where and do who knows what.
