Wyoming Sting: ICE Now to Deport 40 Undocumented Truckers

In recent days we've seen several pretty high-profile roundups of illegal alien criminals, gang members, and the like. These operations are usually carried out in our major cities, and that's appropriate, as that's where a lot of these goblins try to hide away from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the first place.

Not all of the people in the country illegally and doing things they shouldn't be doing are hiding in big cities, though. Some are driving big-rig trucks across country, which has also led to a few high-profile incidents involving drivers who don't have proficiency in English. Now, in Laramie County, Wyoming, local authorities cooperating with ICE have apprehended at least 40 drivers who are in the country illegally; they are now being processed for repatriation.

That's a win by any measure.

Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Wyoming Highway Patrol collaborated on a three-day operation last week targeting commercial truck drivers on county roads, leading to 40 pending deportations, authorities say.

Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak made the first public statement about the operation in a Friday video post to the agency’s Facebook page, which he said he took “at one of our hardworking points of entry.”

Kozak said his office, ICE and Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) collaborated for three days in Laramie County, specifically targeting commercial drivers who use county roads to avoid the port of entry.

They performed 195 traffic stops.

And in those three days, they scooped up 40 illegal aliens. 44 trucks now stand idle, and one has to wonder what kind of cargo they were hauling. Were they trying to evade the point of entry because of the driver's illegal status? Or was there something in the cargo? Both?

During those stops, WHP conducted 133 commercial vehicle inspections, placing 44 trucks and 38 drivers out of service.

Forty illegal aliens were in custody Friday awaiting deportation, Kozak added.

One of them, he said, had been convicted of sexual assault and deported twice prior. Another had DUI and larceny convictions and had been deported five times, said the sheriff.

In other words, not people we want in the United States.

Having lived in the American West for three decades, I'm pretty familiar with the region. While Interstate 25 is the primary north-south artery in this area, with Interstate 80 being the east/west route, Laramie County shares a border with Colorado and is right on US Highway 287, which comes north from the Denver area and meets Interstate 80 in the city of Laramie. There are various other roads across this border, if you're looking to enter Wyoming from the south; CO 125/WY 230 has no port of entry and takes one up the Encampment Valley, where a driver can pick up WY 130 to meet I-80. Or, CO 127/WY 230 takes one directly to Laramie and I-80. Once on I-80, a trucker can proceed west to Salt Lake City, east to Omaha, or to Interstate 25.

The American West is full of these little highways and byways, and we feel certain that illegal aliens driving big rigs know about all of them. It's an encouraging note that ICE knows about them as well and is working with local law enforcement to cover as many of these roads as possible. And, best of all, American truckers are helping, and nobody knows the nation's roads better than they.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
