Trump's Big Win: 'Life Support' Case in Georgia Officially Flatlines

There's an old saying: You win some, you lose some. The president has just won one; President Trump now has one less legal case on his mind, as of Wednesday, as the prosecutor who took over the criminal prosecution against the president has stated that the case will not be moving forward

President Trump’s criminal prosecution in Georgia suddenly moved to its end Wednesday, as the prosecutor who recently took over the case announced he will not move forward with it.

Pete Skandalakis, the executive director of Georgia’s Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council who took over Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s (D) 2020 election subversion case against Trump and several allies, filed a motion indicating to the judge that he is declining to prosecute them further.

Fani Willis, the Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney who brought the charges against President Trump, of course, has problems of her own. For example, earlier this year, she was ordered to pay over $50,000 in attorney's fees in a records case, after a judge found her office had violated Georgia’s Open Records Act. And, of course, there is the little matter of her being removed from the Trump case over her inappropriate relationship with a prosecutor. She is, however, still the District Attorney for Fulton County, Georgia, and if that doesn't seem right to you, you're not alone. It is, however, an elected position, and it seems the people of Fulton County have spoken.

The new prosecutor made no bones about his reasons for dropping the prosecution.

“It is on life support, and the decision what to do with it falls on me and me alone,” Skandalakis wrote in a 22-page memo submitted to the court Wednesday. “But unlike family members who must make the emotional decision to withdraw loved ones from life-sustaining treatment, I have no emotional connection to this case.”

“As a former elected official who ran as both a Democrat and a Republican and now is the Executive Director of a non-partisan agency, this decision is not guided by a desire to advance an agenda but is based on my beliefs and understanding of the law,” he continued.

This can only be seen as a win for the Trump White House. Granted, at this point in the game, the case was little more than a distraction, but the President of the United States, no matter who occupies that office, has enough to deal with without capricious legal cases brought by overly zealous leftist prosecutors. Unfortunately, now, it seems that precedent has been set, and it's not at all unlikely we'll see more such cases, built and prosecuted on tissue-thin evidence.

This case did land one image permanently in the annals of American political history: the first-ever booking photo (mug shot) of a former President of the United States, which showed then-former President Trump glaring into the camera. When you compare that to his new official presidential portrait... Well, never let it be said that President Trump doesn't have an eye for historical irony.
