We have deployed our evidence response team and other specialty resources as part of our response to this incident. The suspect is deceased from his self-inflicted injuries and has been identified as a student at the school, 16-year-old Desmond Holly.
Most importantly, our thoughts continue to be with the two victims injured in the shooting and all those who have been impacted by this horrific attack. We will share more as we are able.
RedState's own Becca Lower, on Wednesday, broke the initial story:

Becca writes:
Officials in Jefferson County, Colorado, said on Wednesday afternoon that a shooting happened at a local high school, leaving several students injured, according to multiple reports.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley said at an afternoon press conference that someone called 911 just before 12:30 p.m. MDT to report an active shooter on the campus of Evergreen High School in Evergreen.
Kelley added that the suspect, a teenager, is thought by law enforcement to be a student at Evergreen.
It’s not clear whether the shooting started inside or outside the school, but investigators have found at least one area outside the building where the shooting happened, Kelley said.
The developing story included reporting with varying injury tallies, with ABC News reporting that four were injured, three critically, including the alleged assailant, whom law enforcement "engaged and neutralized":
Evergreen is a suburb of the Denver metropolitan area, in the Rocky Mountain foothills west of the city.
The Denver Post had more information on the story earlier Thursday.
Armed with a revolver, Desmond systematically reloaded and fired as he wandered the three-level school, trying to find new targets, Kelley said. His exact path through Evergreen High is not yet known, she said, but the teen shooter’s movements were captured by the school’s surveillance cameras. That video is being reviewed by investigators.
The school’s lockdown procedures prevented the shooter from reaching many of the students, but two were critically injured and are being treated at Denver-area hospitals, Kelley said.
The Denver Post also gave the number of injured students as two, both of whom are reportedly in critical condition.
One victim remained in critical condition at St. Anthony Hospital, Dr. Brian Blackwood said in a Thursday morning news briefing. The second victim was transferred Wednesday evening to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, where that student remained in critical condition Thursday, hospital officials said in a statement.
One victim was shot inside the school and the other was shot in the street behind Evergreen High while attempting to flee, Kelley said.
The Post stated that Desmond had been "radicalized," but offered no specifics as to how, exactly, he had been radicalized, nor by whom or what. There are as yet no updates on the two students who were injured. Desmond, as Director Patel noted, died of self-inflicted wounds; it's unclear as yet at exactly what point he decided to turn the gun on himself.
Also on Wednesday, another possible school shooting was averted, this one in Pierce County, Washington.
