Report: Shooting at Colorado High School Leaves 4 Injured, 3 Critically, Including Alleged Shooter

Officials in Jefferson County, Colorado, said on Wednesday afternoon that a shooting happened at a local high school, leaving several students injured, according to multiple reports.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley said at an afternoon press conference that someone called 911 just before 12:30 p.m. MDT to report an active shooter on the campus of Evergreen High School in Evergreen.

Kelley added that the suspect, a teenager, is thought by law enforcement to be a student at Evergreen. 

It’s not clear whether the shooting started inside or outside the school, but investigators have found at least one area outside the building where the shooting happened, Kelley said.

The developing story included reporting with varying injury tallies, with ABC News reporting that four were injured, three critically, including the alleged assailant, whom law enforcement "engaged and neutralized":

The suspect was engaged and neutralized, according to law enforcement officials. Officials are sweeping the campus, but the school is no longer in a lockdown.

Three students are in critical condition and are being transported to St. Anthony Hospital, a hospital spokesperson confirmed to ABC News. A fourth student has also been transported, but with an unknown injury.

Investigators believe the shooter is among the injured students.

CO Governor Jared Polis released a statement in the wake of the incident, noting that his office is monitoring the situation, while adding that Colorado State Patrol officers were supporting those at the scene:

“Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation," he said. "We are all praying for the victims and the entire community."

Among the many agencies and departments responding to and investigating the shooting are the ATF, the Denver FBI, and hundreds of local police officers.
