I've been saying, and writing, for some years that in a variety of issues, we need to keep an eye on Europe. The leftist lunacy that infests much of Europe is a training ground for the left here in the United States on a variety of issues, ranging from climate panic-mongering, energy, education, and, of course, the lunatic obsession with gender ideology.
That last item may be the most pernicious one. Oh, the leftists in our schools, who infest our education system like termites in an old barn, are using their positions to fill young skulls full of mush with climate panic and every other leftist issue du jour, but when it comes to gender ideology, not only are they teaching utter horse squeeze that the education system has no business dealing with.
In the United Kingdom, activist groups are teaching it to elementary school kids; the latest attack of insanity has them proclaiming that there are no fewer than 300 varieties of LGBTQKRAZEE+++, but that each has a flag that the kids are expected to know. In the town of Swindon, the lunacy has exploded.
Schoolchildren are being taught about 300 different LGBT pride flags and the sexualities and gender identities behind each of them.
Leaflets handed out at primary schools by the charity Swindon and Wiltshire Pride claim there are more flags representing sexuality and gender identity than there are for countries.
The material, signposted by the local council on social media, goes into detail about a “small selection” of 29 varieties.
It says: “While some might think [300] is too many, it’s all part of a drive to be more inclusive of the expansive breadth of identity within the community”.
Three hundred is too many. One would be too many. This has no business anywhere in the education system, whose primary purpose, remember, is to produce young adults with marketable skills. This gender ideology on steroids, in addition to being staggeringly ridiculous, is just factually wrong. There's no way, socially or biologically, that anyone can claim 300 (or more) variations on sexual practices. Honestly, how can you even come up with 300 variations on this?
But that doesn't stop the "Swindon and Wiltshire Pride" people from trying.
The three double-page spreads about Pride flags describe the identity each is meant to represent, what the colours mean and when the flag was created, if known.
For example, beneath the pink, purple and green “trigender Pride flag”, the charity explains that “trigender is a gender identity in which a person switches between or among several genders, including a third gender”, which may change depending “on the individual’s mood or environment”.
The “omnisexual” flag explainer says the term refers to someone attracted to all genders and sexualities, and that it was created in 2015, but that the creator “never explained the exact meaning of the colours”.
The polyamory flag, which represents people who engage in multiple romantic and sexual relationships at once, is described as being comprised of “blue for openness and honesty, magenta for desire, love, and attraction; purple represents a united non-monogamous community. Gold represents the energy and perseverance and the white represents possibility”.
Holy moley! How is anyone supposed to keep all that straight? (You may assume that the play on words is intentional.) Are we supposed to carry a pamphlet around describing all this, to avoid unintentionally giving offense? Is there an app we can put on our phones to avoid the unforgivable offense of calling a "three-spirit omnisexual genderqueer glitter-sprite" flag a "polyamorous gender-ambiguous wood nymph" flag?
Note, also, that there actually is a flag for straight, heterosexual, dare we say normal people - a plain black and white one, although Swindon and Wiltshire Pride won't even let the regular folks have that, insisting that it can also include transgender people.
Shall we, as responsible people, demand that the "pride" people cease and desist indoctrinating other people's kids with this? Well, that latter idea, which makes a great deal of sense, isn't having much effect in the UK, where concerned parents are being ignored.
One mother, a former teacher, said the guide being given out in primary schools was “really concerning”.
And:
The mother and former teacher, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed her concerns had been waved away by Jim Robbins, the council’s chairman.
She said she had also met local MP, Heidi Alexander, the Transport Secretary, who has made enquiries to the council and is awaiting a response.
The mother said: “My question was, why are schools and public health not in line with the Cass Review? How can school policy be so divorced?
Because the Swindon and Wiltshire Pride people don't care about the Cass Review, about the facts it uncovered, about parents' concerns, or about the primary purpose of the education system, that being to equip young people with marketable skills. They don't care about the time wasted trying to teach this impossible flood of steatorrhea they call 300 types of "pride." They don't care about anything other than indoctrinating other people's kids.

Look, there have been gay people - let's use the traditional term, homosexuals - throughout human history. Throughout history, most of them have lived mostly normal lives, and few people are concerned with who other consenting adults sleep with, as long as they do like the rest of us and not wave their sexuality in everyone's faces. That's a lesson the "pride" people seem unable to absorb - and they always feel the need to recruit other people's kids.
Remember, there's a real takeaway from all this nonsense, and it's one we must remember every day: Watch Europe. Watch the UK. Because the American left and the "Pride" people are looking on all this with envy, and they will try it here next. We haven't seen the explosion of 300 types of "pride" here yet - but they are already trying to shoehorn this "pride" horse squeeze into the schools, and will explode to this level of lunacy if we allow it.
And, finally, back to Swindon:
Swindon Borough Council declined to comment.
You don't say.
