Astonishing: UK Passenger Railway Offering Period Support to 'People'

Merriam-Webster defines "woke" thusly:

...aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice); reflecting the attitudes of woke people

There's an important distinction there; "societal facts" may be a thing, we can suppose. But one thing we know for sure and for certain, the "woke" care not a jot for biological facts. Like, say, human sexual bipolarity.

Case in point: Avanti West Coast, a British passenger rail service, has started offering free "period care." For those of you who may not be familiar with that euphemism, that means tampons. That, in and of itself, is fine; a bit of an odd choice of a free service from a passenger railway, and I will not speculate as to why they chose this of all things as a passenger freebie. But what's curious is their announcement of the service, which coincides with something called (yes, really) Menstrual Hygiene Day. That announcement mentions "people" and "customers," but there is one thing they don't mention: Women.

As a matter of biology, only women menstruate.

A train company has failed to mention women or females in a free tampon scheme.

Avanti West Coast instead referred to “customers” and “people” who may benefit from the rollout of the toiletries.

On Wednesday, the train company announced that free period care would be available on its trains. The Package for a Friend scheme, which coincides with Menstrual Hygiene Day, allows “customers” to request pads from staff in the onboard shop.

Alternatively, the company said travellers could place an order on their click and collect service to discreetly pick up goods from a member of staff without having to ask.

Well, that all sounds fine, doesn't it? It is, again, perhaps an odd choice of a free service; well, a service where the cost is embedded in the fare, if we may be pedantic for a moment, and I think we can. But the language seems unnecessarily "woke," in that it takes the ridiculous to a new level by not mentioning the only people who menstruate - women.

This is a fact: Only women menstruate. Only women need these products. Why, then, not just say so?

There are those, even in the increasingly woke United Kingdom, who aren't happy with this prevarication.

However, the official release made no mention of women or females, with critics accusing Avanti of being “extremely offensive” to women.

Mary Howden, of the Women’s Rights Network, told The Telegraph: “While it is commendable that Avanti West Coast is offering its customers period products, it is disappointing that it fails to acknowledge that those customers will all be women.

“The erosion of language that relates only to women is not inclusive. It is clumsy and often unclear, and many women find it extremely offensive.”

Avanti West Coast, we might note, is also fond of painting their passenger cars in "Pride" colors, or whatever "Pride" colors were the day they painted the cars. The more radical among the LGBTQWTF!!! community seems to change their choice of pride colors more frequently than they change their socks - or their hair dye. And yet Avanti seems to want to pursue this ever-moving target, while scrupulously avoiding any mention of women in their announcement about free tampons.

This is a fact: Only women menstruate. Only women need these products. Why the evasion? Why deny biological reality? Is Avanti's target market "the overwhelmingly emotionally fragile and deluded?" More to the point, why offend actual women, effectively erasing them by refusing to even use the word "women," who surely outnumber the woke by a wide margin?

This doesn't seem like a good business strategy.

CA High School Sports Governing Body Tries Again to Fix Rule Allowing Boys to Compete As Girls, and Fails

There are signs of similar nonsense here; the astonishing practice of letting boys who suddenly decide to claim to be girls compete in girls' sports, for instance. This leads me to once more ask and answer this question: Why worry about what the British or British businesses do? Because not all that long ago, the United Kingdom was America, Original Recipe. With leaders like WInston Churchill, the Brits accomplished great things; they faced down Nazi Germany alone, after all. But now? The UK seems to have fallen into the sticky trap of wokeness. And while there is some encouraging pushback, not least of which is from mega-wealthy author J.K. Rowling, the parade of "woke" in the UK seems to be advancing - and the left will want to try it here next.

The UK and indeed all of Europe serve as an object lesson: "Don't try this at home."

And, finally:

An Avanti spokesman declined to comment when approached by The Telegraph.

You don't say.
