Watch: Bernie Sanders Ducks Question About AOC Running for Senate

We may well be witnessing the passing of a torch just now in the Democratic Party. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the former bartender from New York, and Bernie Sanders, the daffy old Bolshevik from Vermont, have been making some appearances together. We may well presume that the "daffy Bolshevik" torch is being handed off, from a failed carpenter to a failed bartender.

Or, at least, we might have thought that, until Bernie appeared on ABC's "This Week" and, when asked if he thought AOC should run for the Senate, appeared about to storm out of the room, calling it a "nonsense question."

Now why would he do that?

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., got up during a pre-taped ABC "This Week" interview that aired Sunday, and accused Jonathan Karl of asking a "nonsense" question about whether Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., should run for Senate.

Right after calling Ocasio-Cortez "extraordinary," Sanders would not answer a question about whether he would like to see her in the Senate. Speculation has ramped up about AOC challenging Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a primary after Schumer supported a government funding bill to avoid a partial shutdown.

"Right now, we have, as I said, just a whole lot of people in the Congress. OK, Jonathan. Thanks," Sanders said as he got up from his seat.

Jonathan Karl was able to calm the desiccated old commie down and proceed with a final question.

"Well, I ask you – you know, you want to do nonsense, do nonsense. No, I don't want to talk about inside the Beltway stuff. I got 32,000 people," Sanders said, referencing the crowd that gathered Friday in Denver for an event with AOC.

Karl convinced Sanders to come back and sit down.

"Well, fine. But I don't want to talk about this. What was the last question?" Sanders asked.

Now, isn't this interesting? Here, watch the clip:

He doesn't want to talk about inside-the-beltway stuff -or he doesn't want to talk about AOC in the Senate?

Could it simply be that, to run for the Senate, AOC would by necessity be challenging the Democrat Senate Minority (hah) Leader Chuck Schumer for his seat? Does Bernie just not want to contemplate the hoo-raw that would result from a junior Congress critter challenging the top Senate Democrat?

Or is he concerned about her ability to handle being a member of this august senior chamber? Not that the Senate and the House differ that much, these days; it's just as stirred-up and hyper-partisan as the House, the founder's "cooling saucer" effect is long since passed.

Or does he have something else in mind? Bernie's 83 years old. It's unlikely he'll be running for president again, and after the Democrats froze him out of the process the last couple of times he's tried, we can't blame him for that. But is he thinking of leveraging AOC's popularity in the looney-tunes wing of the Democratic party to swing her over into being an independent and, like him, a permanent member of the Daffy Bolshevik caucus? Maybe to form a third party - the Daffy Bolshevik Party?

That would be interesting - and would, doubtless, cause national Democrats a certain amount of chagrin.
