This Looks Bad: Trump Campaign Raising Money off the Image of Parkland Survivors

Maybe don’t.

President Trump’s campaign decided it would be a stellar idea to raise funds off of Parkland.

On Saturday, the campaign sent out emails, soliciting donations by featuring a picture of Trump and the First Lady, Melania Trump at the hospital bedside of 17-year old Madeleine Wilford, who was injured in the shooting.

From The Hill:

“The nation has turned its attention to the senseless school shooting in Parkland, Florida,” the email read.

“The President is now engaging in an important national conversation about school safety and ways to prevent any future attacks. President Trump is taking steps towards banning gun bump stocks and strengthening background checks for gun purchasers,” the email continued.

“The President has made his intent very clear: ‘making our schools and our children safer will be our top priority.’”

And then you get hit with the donation link.

Now, a campaign sending out hokey campaign ads, or using strong emotion to solicit funds isn’t a new thing.

Using a picture of a hospitalized survivor of a mass school shooting, while the wounds are still so raw and the debate over gun control is now raging afresh is just bad form.

This will be brought up in the midterms and beyond.

It was a good thing to have the president and his wife visit the injured in the hospital, but Trump has an uncanny ability to take something good and absolutely ruin it.

Who told him this was a good idea?
