Let’s consult the experts!
I told you recently that President Trump turned to the people he calls his “real friends” – the wealthy elites that can afford a membership to Mar-a-Lago – to get their input on gun control.
According to a new report, Trump tossed the idea of how to address gun violence around with his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric over the past weekend.
Both are hunters, so at the very least, they’ve handled guns, before.
According to a report by The Washington Post, Trump spoke with his sons, both avid hunters, while at Mar-a-Lago over the holiday weekend. The Post reported that Trump Jr. and Trump told their father he has flexibility as president to address Republican lawmakers and the National Rifle Association (NRA) about passing common sense gun control laws.
“Common sense gun control laws” is a term that causes most conservatives to cringe. It’s on the same level as “safe abortion” with pro-life advocates, because both terms are euphemisms for what the left really wants to accomplish.
After consulting with his sons, as well as his rich friends, the president held a “listening session” with survivors of the Parkland shooting, as well as parents.
No one he’s listening to has a particularly clear-headed or conservative view of events, I’m guessing.
“Some of your suggestions, I’ve heard some of them. We’re going to do something about this horrible situation that’s going on,” Trump said. “I want to listen. And then after I listen, we’re going to get things done.”
“We’re going to be very strong on background checks,” Trump said Wednesday. “There are many ideas I have, there are many ideas that other people have, and we’re going to pick out the strongest ideas, the most important ideas.”
“It’s not going to be talk like it has been in the past,” he added.
Some of Trump’s ideas include tougher background checks and raising the age requirements for those seeking to purchase guns.
Very little of these things will matter. Someone intent on doing something bad will find a way.
