*I’m dying.*

The Trump team can’t keep their rhetoric straight, and little of it sounds like what he campaigned on.

As former President Jimmy Carter said of Trump before the election, “He’s malleable.”

While appearing on CNN Wednesday evening, Kellyanne Conway explained the evolution of Trump’s thoughts on a southern border wall.

“What’s true is that after conferring with the experts who are involved in this process…the president discovered that part of it will be, he knows, part of it will be the physical wall, part of it is better technology, part of it is also fencing,” Conway said during an interview on CNN.

So… no wall?

“There are rivers involved, I’m told. There are mountains involved– there’s terrain that isn’t conducive to building an actual physical structure in some places.”

She had to be told about the rivers and terrain on the southern border? These are things that didn’t just spring up after the election. These conditions were always there, and others gave far more honest assessments of the border situation during the primaries (GovernorRickPerryGovernorRickPerryGovernorRickPerry), as well as what would work best.

What’s truly egregious is the way Trump used the idea of a Mexico-funded wall as red meat for his rabid base. At some point, somebody must have told him privately that a 2,000+ mile border wall just wasn’t tenable. Certainly, Governor Perry and others like him spoke publicly about the border and called Trump’s empty campaign promise out for the utter BS it was.

And no, Mexico, a nation broken by corruption, will not be paying for it. If Mexico was a nation of any means, their people wouldn’t be trying to cross over our borders to begin with.

Trump is still pushing the line, however, because he knows he’ll never be held accountable by his fan club.

On Tuesday, Trump had his bipartisan immigration meeting televised, so everyone, including the true MAGA believers could hear him say he’d sign whatever was put in front of him. They heard him agree with Dianne Feinstein about a clean DACA bill, and agree that 800,000 “Dreamers” would be taken care of.

He’s still calling for a wall and wall funding, but given the back and forth of his immigration meeting, as well as Conway’s statements on Wednesday evening, we can assume the “wall” he’s talking about now isn’t the same wall that was discussed on the campaign trail.

“As I made very clear today, our country needs the security of the Wall on the Southern Border, which must be part of any DACA approval,” Trump tweeted.

So, amnesty, in exchange for a wall that his supporters may have to realize doesn’t mean a full, physical wall on the border.

I’m waiting for Trump to announce that the real wall is in our hearts.
