Joe Biden Jumped the Shark

The phrase “jumped the shark” is frequently used to signify the high-water mark or the beginning of the end of a particular public endeavor. Something goes great for a while, picks up notoriety in the public consciousness, and then takes a wrong turn when attempts are made to return to the original luster that caught people’s attention from the beginning. The original meaning was used to describe the decline and fall of television series and was first attributed to the late-’70s/early-‘80s situational comedy (SITCOM) Happy Days. In one episode, one of the main characters – the iconic “Fonzie” – was challenged to jump over a shark on water skis. Various observers attributed that episode to be the zenith of the series, and the phrase “jumped the shark” began to be used in Hollywood to identify when a given TV series began to lose its original edge begin to lose viewership.

“Jumped the shark” has also been applied to other human endeavors, including political campaigns, in order to mark the beginning of the end. Which brings us to Joe Biden.

Given his long-term affliction with foot-in-mouth disease, Joe “Gaffe Machine” Biden could be construed to have had many “jumped the shark” moments during his flagging campaign. It has been actually sad watching someone who looks like he may have first-stage dementia “perform” on the national stage during the Democrat primary campaign this year. My wife has frequently remarked after watching him in action that his own wife should lovingly suggest that he pack it in and retire to private life.

Be that as it may, he soldiers on, committing a gaffe or two in almost every public appearance these days. His latest laugher was referring to Chris Wallace of Fox News as “Chuck” during an interview just this past Sunday. I guess he thought he was talking to Chuck Todd since the interview was conducted on a Sunday news program.

What’s amazing to me is that the Democrat-media complex excuse this recurring behavior and have now designated him as the man who will somehow save the Democrat Party from a Bernie Sanders presidential nomination. Are Democrat voters so willfully blinded that they will actually vote for someone for president who has obvious mental difficulties? Aren’t they the least little bit concerned about how he would actually perform as president in difficult situations? Apparently, they all seek to ignore his budding Ukraine corruption problems that aren’t going away any time soon (the Ukrainians opened an investigation into Joe just last week). I’ve never understood what passes for Democrat thinking or logic, that’s for sure.

At any rate, I believe that Joe Biden truly “jumped the shark” when he publicly asked Beto O’Rourke to lead his “gun control effort” if elected president.

Are you kidding me? With that announcement, Biden can kiss off virtually all of non-coastal America (assuming he gets the nomination) and all pro-Second Amendment voters. Beto is a proponent of gun grabs, as noted here:

When asked by ABC moderator David Muir to confirm that he planned to mandate that Americans sell their guns, the former Texas congressman responded, “hell yes.”

We’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore,” O’Rourke said.

Yeah, that’ll go down great in Texas and in other pro-2A states, Joe. Does Biden seriously believe that announcement is somehow going to re-energize his campaign? Such video snippets will find their way into President Trump’s repertoire of “Biden gaffe” campaign commercials during the general election – assuming Joe makes it that far. The ads almost write themselves, don’t they?

Joe Biden has (finally) jumped the shark. Good.

The end.
