Today the Turkish and Greek national soccer teams met for a match. Before the game a moment of silence was requested in remembrance of the people killed by radical Islamists in Paris on Friday. This is what happened:

Via the Turkish newspaper Today’s Zaman:

The minute’s silence was held before the match started on Tuesday evening to show solidarity with France after 129 people were killed during a major terrorist attack in Paris on Friday. However, the silence was protested by some spectators who booed and some others who shouted “Martyrs never die, the country will never be divided.”

Speaking to the press after the match, Fatih Terim, the legendary coach of the Turkish national team, condemned the behavior of the spectators, asking in protest: “If they do the same thing during our national anthem, what will you do? What is happening to us [the Turkish people]? Where did this whistling come from? We are holding a minute of silence for dead people. Can you [spectators] not be patient for just a minute? This does not suit us at all.”

This incident received widespread media coverage in foreign media outlets. France’s L’Equipe daily said the minute’s silence held for the victims of the Paris attacks was not respected. “Some of the supporters constantly booed during the minute’s silence. A group of spectators were also chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’ [God is great] under the glances of Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and his Greek counterpart, Alexis Tsipras. The Turkish nationalist slogans continued regularly throughout the match.”

Spain’s AS daily reported the incident thus: “During the minute’s silence at the Turkey-Greece match, the spectators chanted the slogan of ‘Allahu Akbar’.”

The Washington Post reports the incident but with this hilarious lie tossed in:

The chanting was not meant to be a show of disrespect for the victims, however, says Ahmed Bedier, a frequent media commentator on Islamic issues.

“Fans were chanting a popular Turkish chant against terrorism,” he said via his Facebook page. “It has become common practice for Turkish fans to chant during moments of silence [to] honor the victims.”

Ah, yes. Because nothing says opposition to terrorism like chanting “martyrs never die” and “allahu akbar.” (How do you tell when an Islamist is lying? His lips move.) Seriously, this claim is on par with insisting that a bomb vest is tradition Muslim attire.;. though that is becoming perilously close to true.

Keep in mind that these people are our alleged allies, people who fancy themselves as part of the EU.

In a tragic sort of way, ISIS has done us a favor. It has ripped the mask off Islam and has exposed its hideous nature to the world. It is also forcing the flaccid, culturally decayed nations of Europe to open their eyes to the suppurating evil it has left fester and will force them to make changes. Whether we like it or not, we are engaged in a clash between civilization and rank barbarism; between light and the pitch darkness of the Pit.
