Poor Shutdown 2.0 — we hardly knew ye...

Roughly three-and-a-half days after it began, the latest (partial) shutdown is over, with the House voting 217 to 214 to agree to the Senate amendments on the spending package and reopen the federal government.

What this means is that the government is funded (via regular order) through FY 2026 (September 30), with the exception of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS is now funded for 10 days via continuing resolution while Democrats and Republicans attempt to reach an agreement on it — a feat that has become more challenging in the wake of partisan tussling over immigration enforcement.

Later, top Democrats will host a bicameral forum on DHS’s immigration crackdown. Speakers include the brothers of Renee Good, who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer last month.

And the disagreements aren't limited to Ds versus Rs. That final vote had 21Democrats voting with Republicans to agree to the Senate amendments, while 21 Republicans voted against it.

There's also a sharp divide between Democrat leaders in the House and Senate.

We can expect an inordinate amount of wrangling in the next 10 days over DHS funding. RedState will, of course, keep you posted.
