Johnson: 'Biden's the Worst President in the History of the Country'

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) isn't particularly known for hyperbole or cheap shots, so when he comes right out and labels the current occupant of the Oval Office as likely its worst, one takes note.

Johnson made the remarks ahead of a Tuesday meeting with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to discuss potential impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden.

Greene told reporters Monday she would move to force a vote that night on impeaching Biden over the situation at the U.S. southern border, but said she would hold off until speaking with Johnson first. The two met late Tuesday morning, shortly after Johnson said he was making “no commitment” on Greene’s impeachment effort.

“In general, the impeachment power is one that we wield very carefully here, as I’ve said so many times. Next to the declaration of war, it’s the heaviest power that Congress has,” Johnson said during a Tuesday press conference ahead of his meeting with Greene. “It … needs to be very methodical.

“Look, there’s no question President Biden, I think, is the worst president … I think President Biden’s the worst president in the history of the country, and there may well be impeachable offenses,” he added. “There is an investigation process that’s gone about that has been looked at [by] our committees of jurisdiction, and the process continues, so I’m not making any commitment on that this morning. We have to let the constitutional process and our constitutional responsibility play out.”

Bear in mind: Johnson and Greene haven't exactly been fast friends of late, given her motion to vacate his speakership. And, while Greene seems motivated to proceed with impeachment proceedings, as Johnson noted, such proceedings are significant and the approach needs to be methodical. (Let's not forget what happened after the House impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas — also over the border situation.)

Of course, Biden is doing everything he can about the border — that is, if one presumes the end goal of his administration's handling of it is to allow an endless flood of unvetted illegal immigrants into the country.

His latest feint at it, with an executive order that will do little, if anything, to ameliorate the situation — and just might make it worse — is an obvious Hail Mary ahead of the November election, given that immigration and the border top most lists of voter concerns.

Johnson was not impressed by the executive order, calling it "weak" and "window dressing," and noting it's "too little too late."
