Dear Alvin Bragg: Jim Jordan and the Select Subcommittee on Weaponization Would Like a Word

In the wake of Thursday's guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump in Manhattan, we've seen a lot of reaction from members of Congress, both Republican and Democrat. While Republicans still maintain the majority in the House, they have the ability to use their oversight powers to probe whether there was coordination between the Manhattan District Attorney's office and the Biden Justice Department, and it looks like they're wasting little time in doing just that.

On Friday, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, sent letters to D.A. Alvin Bragg and to Matthew Colangelo (the former "number three" Biden Justice Department official, who stepped down from that role to serve as a lead prosecutor on the Trump prosecution team in Bragg's office) "inviting" them to appear before the committee on June 13 to testify.

The letter addressed to Bragg reads:

We write to respectfully request your testimony at a hearing before the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government of the Committee on the Judiciary titled, “Hearing on the Weaponization of the Federal Government,” on June 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building. This hearing will examine actions by state and local prosecutors to engage politically motivated prosecutions of federal officials, in particular the recent political prosecution of President Donald Trump by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

The enclosed Witness Instruction Sheet provides information for witnesses appearing before the Committee. Please note the procedures for submitting written testimony at least two business days prior to the hearing. Please confirm your appearance before the Committee as soon as possible, but no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 7, 2024. If you have any questions, please contact Committee staff at (202) 225-6906. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

(The letter to Colangelo is virtually identical.)

Whether Bragg and Colangelo will agree to appear absent a subpoena remains to be seen, but one suspects they will not. Still, when/if either of them does testify, that will certainly be Must-See Congressional TV.

This is a developing story — RedState will provide additional details as they become available.
