Moore to the Point - Let's Talk Turkey

Well, here we are. It’s Thanksgiving Eve, and we’re forging ahead into the holiday season. If you’re like me, things may seem a little off. It’s been a bruising, disorienting few months – if not years.

One constant in recent times has been the spate of “How to Talk to Your Family Members About Politics” articles that emerge in anxious anticipation of family food fests devolving into family food fights when the dreaded “P” word is raised.

I’m not sure exactly what changed that ostensibly necessitates these road maps for navigating family dinners. Some might point the finger at former President Trump, but remember, “Pajama Boy” was on the scene annoying us with his Obamacare lecture long before Trump launched his initial bid for president.

More likely, it’s an outgrowth of social media.

Whatever the cause, though, I’m of the same mind as my RedState colleague Ward Clark, who recognizes that blood is thicker than water and family gatherings should be reserved for enjoying good food and good company.

There are 360-some-odd other days of the year to debate who’s the best candidate, or what the law should be on abortion, or what Israel should do about Hamas. Save Thanksgiving (and similar family gatherings) for food, football, and fun.

And if a cantankerous family member tries to turn things political, hit ‘em with, “Let’s talk turkey” — not “Let’s talk, Turkey!”
