Moore to the Point - Accurate but Fake

Long, long ago, in a country far, far away, there was a media scandal in which a respected newsman vouched for the authenticity of documents regarding former President George W. Bush shortly before the presidential election. The documents purported to show that Bush hadn’t fulfilled his Texas Air National Guard obligations, but they turned out to be forgeries. The New York Times subsequently ran interference for that newsman (Dan Rather) and his network, characterizing the documents as “Fake but Accurate” — which was roundly (and rightly) ridiculed.

In 2023, we’re presented with the opposite phenomenon. Testimony and documents that are authenticated, corroborated, and thus, accurate, are nevertheless denounced as “fake” by progressive leftists — including those holding elected office.

Information that is true but nevertheless deemed “harmful” by the entrenched powers that be is censored.

Whistleblowers and independent journalists who consider (or at least considered) themselves left of center — or even apolitical — find themselves painted as far-right extremists when they dare speak up about government overreach.

But while the purveyors of the evidence may have changed, the purveyors of the lies haven’t — they’ve just gotten louder. Where before, they tried to coax and cajole, now, they screech, shout down, gaslight, cancel, censor, and do everything short of melting like the Wicked Witch of the West when the truth rains down on them. What a world.
