Kilmar Abrego Garcia Finally Detained by ICE - but There's More to the Story

The saga around Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the illegal alien the government keeps trying to deport, seems to be the never-ending story.

However, we may be in the final stages of that story because now he has been detained by ICE.

Less than 24 hours after being released from criminal custody in Tennessee on Friday, ICE notified Abrego Garcia's attorneys that he may be deported to Uganda and ordered him to report to their office in Maryland.
The notification from ICE came after Abrego Garcia rejected a plea deal to be deported to Costa Rica in exchange for pleading guilty to human smuggling charges and remaining in jail, according to a court filing from his attorneys.

Uganda is one of the third-party countries that has agreed to accept illegal aliens deported by the U.S.

Then, when he did report, he was taken into custody on Monday. DHS head Kristi Noem said he was being processed for deportation.

But as we've learned in this case, there's always more. That wasn't quite the end of the story.

His attorney, Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, claimed, “They’re holding Costa Rica as a carrot and using Uganda as a stick.” He argued, “They’re weaponizing the immigration system in a way that’s completely unconstitutional.”

He has since filed a lawsuit in federal court in Maryland seeking an order for him not to be deported anywhere unless he has had the chance to contest being sent there, his lawyer said.
“I expect there’s going to be a status conference very promptly, and we’re going to ask for an interim order that he not be deported, pending his due process rights to contest deportation to any particular country,” Sandoval-Moshenberg said.

If he can't be sent back to his own country, El Salvador, he has to be sent somewhere. They want to dictate where he gets to be sent when he's here illegally. It's wild. I think it's entering the final phase, and there is likely to be a decision soon.

As Border Czar Tom Homan is fond of saying, he can't stay here. Homan said he's leaving, and if his family doesn't want to be separated, they can go with him.

What makes the case even wilder is how the Democrats have embraced him. This is the issue they want to spend their political capital on.
