On Monday, the Houston Astros celebrated their World Series win with a parade. Texas Senator Ted Cruz was riding in the back of a Humvee during the parade, when someone hurled an alcoholic beverage at him. Initially, it was thought to be a can of beer, but Cruz later clarified it was a White Claw.

Though the can caught Cruz in the chest and neck, he was not injured. The goof who threw it at him was quickly arrested and is facing assault charges.

This incident is just the latest in a string of politically-motivated violent attacks – the bulk of which seem to be directed at those on the right. But whichever way they’re directed and whoever is launching them, they’re a sign of how unhinged many have become in this era of political flame wars, where political opponents are deemed Literally Hitler – or worse.

Cruz, for his part, thanked both the Houston Police and the Capitol Police for their quick action. He also noted he was “thankful that the clown who threw his White Claw had a noodle for an arm.”

Indeed, we can all be thankful some heckling and a glancing blow from a 12 oz can were the worst of it  — even if it was a waste of a perfectly good White Claw.*

*Extra points if you get the movie reference.
