Michigan Dem Senate Candidate Digs Deeper Hole After Damning Audio Revelation on Dearborn's Voters

As RedState reported back in May, Michigan Senate Democrat hopeful Abdul El-Sayed caused alarm bells to go off among some of the state's "old guard" Democrats who worried that his entry into the Senate race would spark a nasty public battle between AIPAC-backed candidates and the pro-Hamas wing, the latter of which El-Sayed is a proud member.

Though his social media has mostly centered around the economy and jobs, El-Sayed has also peppered his messaging with pro-Hamas propaganda, including a fundraising email he sent on the second anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians, where he attacked Israel, and failed to mention who started the Israel-Hamas war in the first place.

As we previously reported, in November, a CNN analysis revealed that El-Sayed, who is backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and several Squad members, had "quietly erased thousands" of posts on social media where he showed support for defunding the police, deleting "his entire X history sometime before launching his Senate campaign in April." The NRSC has characterized El-Sayed as the "Michigan Mamdani."

As we also reported, El-Sayed recently found himself in the hot seat yet again after The Free Beacon broke the story of an audio recording where El-Sayed was strategizing with campaign staffers about how to handle the demise of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, something which occurred during the Operation Epic Fury strikes on Iran.

Here's what he said:

The Free Beacon noted that El-Sayed remarked he'd deflect if reporters started pushing for comment, suggesting that "he would change the subject to Donald Trump's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. 'I'm just gonna go straight to pedophilia, frankly,' El-Sayed said."

As it turns out, deflecting is - unsurprisingly enough - something El-Sayed is fond of doing, as we saw in his response to the release of the damning audio of his strategy and Dearborn's voters, where he went the bbbbut Trump and MAGA route instead of explaining why Khamenei's death was so problematic for both him and Dearborn's voters:

The War Room of former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers (MI-08), who himself is running for Senate (and who has President Trump's endorsement), had the following reaction:

Further, there was also this:

Relatedly, El-Sayed, a former Wayne County health director, is also now having to explain why he, like Mamdani, has been willing to sit down with far-left podcaster Hasan Piker, who infamously declared that Americans deserved 9/11. El-Sayed's explanation, in a nutshell, is that he doesn't agree with Piker on everything but really would like to reach his millions of followers. Umkay.

People might read all of this and think, "How can this hurt El-Sayed? This is Michigan, after all." But Michigan Democrats rejected him in the 2018 gubernatorial primary in favor of Gretchen Whitmer.

Their primary this time around is on August 4th. Will be interesting to see what happens, especially considering the other Democrat candidates have their own baggage and power player backers, too. Stay tuned.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
