With their incendiary rhetoric, Democrats have been normalizing violence against their political opposition for quite some time now. But Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) giving it a formal blessing of sorts back in March 2020 with his own inflammatory comments has caused it to ramp up in recent years.
As RedState readers will recall, Schumer threatened conservative Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh on the steps of the courthouse in early March of that year over a Louisiana abortion law case the court was hearing at the time.
“I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions!" Schumer yelled in front of a crowd of pro-abortion activists. A little over two years later, an unhinged Democrat attempted to assassinate Kavanaugh ahead of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.

Here we are headed into the 2026 midterms campaign cycle, and against the backdrop of threats and actual violence against ICE over the last several months, the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk in September, Tesla dealerships being set on fire earlier this year, and the two assassination attempts against Donald Trump in 2024, Democrat candidates for public office are once again telling us who they really are.
The latest instance comes from Michigan, where voters will take to the polls in 2026 to decide on who will replace retiring Democrat Senator Gary Peters.
Rep. Haley Stevens (MI-11), who earlier this month filed articles of impeachment against HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is one of the candidates running on the Democrat side. Another is Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, who is in the hot seat over comments she recently made where she indicated she'd be likely to throw beer at Kavanaugh and fellow Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett if she saw them in public.
The context of her remarks was someone asking her if there was "any sense" in writing or calling the Supreme Court justices to express their displeasure, with the questioner saying she blamed the justices for "a lot." Here's how McMorrow responded:
So I’m a Notre Dame grad, and Amy Coney Barrett coming out of my university makes me furious - just on a personal level. I talked to somebody yesterday who said they saw her with Brett Kavanaugh at a tailgate last weekend. I was like, I would not be able to control myself. That would be bad. There would be beers thrown in people’s faces.

This is just not okay. It's no more okay than it was when Bernie-backed Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner told an audience at a campaign event in November that "Frankly, I want people to follow them [Republicans] around and don’t let them have a public dinner without getting yelled at. Because that’s power. That’s real power."
It goes without saying that if we want to have some semblance of a civilized country, politically speaking, going forward, one where Republicans can put forth ideas without fear of violent retribution, rhetoric like this must be soundly rejected. Period.
Unfortunately, we have to rely on Democrat primary voters to make that call in 2026, and we're living in a time where the Democrat base is so riddled with TDS that it wants candidates who are willing to shed blood if necessary to overcome their political opposition and ram through a hard left agenda, so it remains to be seen how this all plays out.
Interestingly, McMorrow authored a book titled "Hate Won’t Win: Find Your Power and Leave This Place Better Than You Found It." I'm totally shocked that she doesn't practice what she preaches. Totally.
