Thanks to the massive success of President Donald Trump's outreach efforts towards the Latino community since 2016, Democrats have been desperate to regain a foothold after decades of shameless pandering and demanding fealty, the result of which left many in the community feeling ignored, abandoned, and taken advantage of - leading them to walk away.
One prime example, for instance, was seen in the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election between Democrat nominee Terry McAuliffe and GOP nominee Glenn Youngkin.
During a late October campaign stop just a week or so before the election, a desperate McAuliffe - who by that point was trailing in the polls - told a group of Latino voters that they needed to get to reproducing so they could raise future generations of Democrat voters, and "joked" that if they did it "relatively quickly" it might help him win the election.
With the help of fed-up Latino voters, Trump soared to victory in 2024, and along with that, the GOP regained control of the United States Senate, leaving TDS-suffering Democrats shell-shocked and seething in the process.
So what types of things has the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) been up to in efforts to try and bring those voters back? While we don't have a comprehensive update, we do have a rather interesting one thanks to a recent cringeworthy moment where the DCCC mixed up two Latina Republican Congresswomen in a TikTok ad:

Wonder how much of the $35 million they've invested in "minority outreach" was used to correct this embarrassing mistake?
$35 million later and these chuckleheads still can't tell two Latinas apart. https://t.co/l0shaUvjag pic.twitter.com/M8ikjitc6l

NRCC National War Room Director Ben Peterson observed that "Democrats spent $35 million on outreach…only to hit Jill Biden levels of cringe, from "Si Se Pwod-way!" to 'breakfast tacos.'"

Needless to say, it left Congresswoman De La Cruz chuckling:
I see the DCCC’s “Latinx outreach” efforts are going splendidly.

The party of inclusion thinks we all look alike, @MaElviraSalazar! 🤣🤣🤣 https://t.co/nHuf7P0uvj
Specifically, Democrats are targeting De La Cruz's district ahead of the 2026 midterms:
De La Cruz’s 15th Congressional District was the only Texas seat included on the initial list of 2026 targets unveiled Tuesday morning by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the campaign arm of U.S. House Democrats. The announcement signals that national Democrats are poised to put money and other resources into flipping the district, a longtime Democratic stronghold before De La Cruz brought it under GOP control in 2022.
Doesn't look like it's going well so far.
