We reported earlier today on how the ACLU slapped back at President Joe Biden’s denial yesterday of reports that the White House was considering $450,000/person payments for illegal immigrants who had allegedly been separated from their families during the Trump administration and who had filed lawsuits over the matter.
In response to a Wall Street Journal piece that claimed the “U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering payments that could amount to close to $1 million a family,” Biden told Fox News reporter Peter Doocy – who asked him about it during the G20 Summit Wednesday – that, “If you guys keep sending that garbage out, yeah. But it’s not true,” then replying “yeah” to Doocy’s follow-up on if he was claiming it was a “garbage report.”
As we noted, the ACLU statement indicated that there were indeed talks in the Biden administration, saying that even if Biden was unaware of the talks that he still should not “follow through” on “abandoning a core campaign promise to do justice for the thousands of separated families.”
In an update to this story, White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, subbing for Jen Psaki who is recovering from COVID, completely undercut Biden’s comments when asked about them today (by Doocy) during the daily press briefing:
.@KJP46 cleans up Biden’s comments yesterday re: the potential $450,000 settlements for immigrants affected by the family separation policies of the Trump admin. Karine says Biden is “perfectly comfortable” w settlements if it comes to that (Biden had said it’s not gonna happen)

Pressed later on whether Biden had been briefed by DOJ on the settlement issue, and whether it was appropriate for @POTUS to weigh in (again) on a pending DOJ matter, @KJP46 says “he was asked a question and he answered it. There’s nothing much more to add to that.”

Jean-Pierre then claimed that what Biden was describing was “garbage” was the $450,000 amount. She then said the DOJ would be able to speak more on the issue than she could.
Watch:
Yesterday, Biden said settlement payouts with taxpayer dollars to illegal immigrants were “not gonna happen.”

This … is just embarrassing. So much so that even Democrat apologist reporters like New York Times journo Maggie Haberman are reacting incredulously to the abrupt flip flop.
Regardless of what one thinks about the idea of paying illegal immigrants who entered into this country illegally hundreds of thousands of dollars, no matter which way you spin it this looks bad for Biden. Either he legit didn’t know about the payment discussions – not good, did know and forget about them – not good, or did know and lied about them when asked yesterday – also not good.
None of those scenarios are a good look, and further lend credence to speculation that the Biden White House is in complete disarray, all brought on by a president who gets caught snoozing at public events almost as often he gets caught in flubs and gaffes.
To reiterate a point I’ve made before, Joe Biden is a caricature of a president, a puppet of the radical left and senior administration officials who have to routinely pull his strings and play clean-up when he messes things up, which must be an exhausting job since it’s a near-hourly occurrence with this president.
Unfortunately, it’s the American people who are bearing the brunt of the harsh consequences for Biden’s gross ineptitude.
Rest assured, though, that there is a silver lining in all of this. At least we are no longer subjected to mean tweets and stuff, right?
