As Nick Arama reported earlier, President Joe Biden failed to commemorate the 77th anniversary of D-Day Sunday, not making any public comments about it nor posting anything to his social media accounts regarding one of the most famous and honored days in American military history.
While Biden did tweet about the 100th anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, which deserves remembrance in its own right, many were left wondering why a Commander in Chief who has in the past put on theatrical productions and told tall tales about his supposed fondness for our men and women in uniform would fail to give the historic day and the symbolism of what it means the proper acknowledgment and respect.
Though Biden appeared to be unavailable to take questions from reporters today, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy did not let that stop him from inquiring of White House press secretary Jen Psaki earlier during the daily press briefing about Biden’s lack of acknowledgment of the day.
“Presidents Bush, Obama, and Trump all commemorated D-Day anniversaries on the D-Day anniversary,” Doocy noted. “Why didn’t President Biden?”
Here was Psaki’s response:
“Well, I can tell you that certainly, his value for the role the men who served on D-Day and the memory of them, the families who have kept their memories alive over the course of years on this day is something the President has spoke to many, many times in the past. It’s close to his heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more we would have to say on it.”

.@PressSec is asked why President Biden didn't post a commemoration of D-Day:

So if it was so “close to his heart,” why didn’t he say so? Was it deliberate or did he forget? Quite frankly, I’m not sure which is worse.
Biden’s silence on the commemoration of D-Day and the outrage that ensued from it comes on the heels of an extraordinarily tone-deaf tweet Vice President Kamala Harris posted three days before Memorial Day that included a photo of her smiling and the words “enjoy the long weekend.”
The tweet was ratioed, with many people including veterans and their family members pointing out that the Memorial Day weekend was not simply a holiday weekend where we celebrated people getting to take a day off from work.
Psaki’s “I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more we would have to say on it” response to Doocy’s question suggests the issue took her off guard, and that it’s her plan to get the White House to rectify the situation in some way.
Whether intentional or not, this was handled sloppily all the way around. It’s not a good look at all for the White House, but considering how often Biden has insulted members of the military to their faces in the past (recent example here), what happened Sunday (or rather did not happen) shouldn’t shock too many people.
