Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect in the violent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, reportedly confessed to the crime in an online chat group.
Messages purportedly from Robinson's account surfaced in a Discord chat, where he admitted responsibility for the shooting. The Washington Post confirmed through multiple sources familiar with the message that it came from Robinson. They also obtained screenshots of the killer's interaction with the group.
“Hey guys, I have bad news for you all,” he wrote. "It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this.”
"UVU" stands for Utah Valley University, the campus upon which Kirk was fatally shot while engaging in one of his popular, peaceful debates with college students.
The blunt delivery appears to convey a striking calm by the killer, as if stating a basic everyday fact rather than confessing to murder.

Robinson reportedly told those in the group chat that he was planning to turn himself in to the authorities.
“im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments,” another message reads, according to the Post. “thanks for all the good times and laughs, you’ve all been so amazing, thank you all for everything.”
He would be taken into custody roughly two hours later, though not because he turned himself in. Robinson surrendered only after his father and pastor outed him, and authorities arrived at his house. Robinson, according to reports, stated he'd rather kill himself than turn himself over to the police.
News of the confession comes as Discord was quick to insist that an internal investigation of their platform found "no evidence that the suspect planned this incident or promoted violence on Discord.”
Along with the confession, messages in a separate chat appeared to show Robinson joking that a “doppelgänger” was trying to get him into trouble for Kirk's killing.

FBI Director Kash Patel told "Fox & Friends" on Monday that the ongoing investigation into Kirk's assassination had yielded DNA evidence putting Robinson at the crime scene.
"I can report today that the DNA hits from the towel that was wrapped around the firearm and the DNA on the screwdriver are positively processed for the suspect in custody," he confirmed.
Patel insisted that, contrary to left-wing media reports, the shooter was steeped in radical liberal ideology online in recent years and had developed a deep hatred for Kirk.
"His family has collectively told investigators that he subscribed to left-wing ideology, and even more so in these last couple of years," Patel said. "He claimed that he had an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and he was going to do it, because of his hatred for what Charlie stood for."
The FBI Director also indicated officials had evidence that Robinson had written a note before the shooting stating (he paraphrased), "I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I'm going to take it."
Thus far, it seems they have a message of intent, solid forensic evidence, and an actual blunt confession.
Kirk's killer could face execution by firing squad in the state of Utah, should prosecutors seek the death penalty and they can secure a guilty verdict.
