Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington, this past season's WNBA Most Improved Player, caused some controversy as she flaunted a pre-game outfit featuring a hoodie with an explicit message directed at President Donald Trump.
Carrington is currently on a team in Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 professional women’s basketball league that began play last week. She plays on the Mist Basketball Club.
On Friday, the Mist took on the Laces. And their new star player was spotted heading into Wayfair Arena in Miami, Florida. Carrington posted images on social media, drawing attention to the message on her shirt.
"What my hoodie says," she captioned her post on X.

For those struggling to zoom in on the message, it's a sweatshirt from rapper YG, featuring the name of his old 2016 tour: "The F**k Donald Trump Tour."
My, how far we've come. Nowadays, rappers are clamoring to perform at Trump's inaugural events while, as Bill Maher joked, even "the Village People are gay for Trump now."
The cultural shift has been crazy. Where's YG nowadays? Last anyone heard of him, he was being arrested for DUI in October 2024. He was also arrested for robbery in 2020 but avoided charges after a civil settlement.
Yet, for some reason, Carrington opted to try and revive his old 2016 tour name. Weird, I wonder what's happening here again in 2024, similar to 2016?

Anyway, Carrington seems to be desperately seeking attention, but it might not be the kind of attention her new league wants right now. Trump is more popular than he's ever been. Women's basketball, without superstar Caitlin Clark, remains unpopular.
Alienating part of your fan base isn't the most brilliant move. Especially when Unrivaled's debut games saw pretty weak ratings. Sports Media Watch reports that Unrivaled is averaging just 204,000 viewers across TNT and truTV. Clark could draw a crowd of 200,000 by eating a bowl of soup in the middle of a gym and then walking out.
Carrington, though, thrives on driving away fans. She's had a personal grudge against the sport's most popular star for reasons known only to her.

DiJonai was accused of intentionally poking Clark in the eye during a playoff game in September 2024. Clark wound up with a significant black eye, but no foul was called. The Indiana Fever star would go on to have a horrendous shooting night.
Fans were not very forgiving when replays of the offending finger of doom emerged, causing several observers to suggest that Carrington led fingers-first on purpose.
🚨Video evidence suggests Dijonai Carrington may have intentionally hit Caitlin Clark early in the first quarter of the Sun v. Fever playoff game, resulting in a black eye.

No foul was called. The #WNBA needs to investigate immediately. Does this look unintentional to you? pic.twitter.com/ue2Sf03e9O
Adding fuel to the fire was Carrington's history of already figuratively poking the bear. She mocked Clark, who was the victim of a flagrant foul by Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, by stating in an X post: “Unfortunately for yall new fAnS [sic], we do not just ‘shut up and dribble’ here. Ya picked the wrong league.”
Carrington also ripped Clark for daring to suggest she's focused on basketball--and not outside noise from a media trying to create a race narrative involving her fans.
“How one can not be bothered by their name being used to justify racism, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia & the intersectionalities of them all is nuts,” Carrington wrote in another X post.
First, she alienated Clark's fans in the WNBA; now, she's driving Trump supporters away from a league that nobody is watching anyway. Not the most intelligent business model.
Carrington and the Mist are 0-3 to start the season in Unrivaled. And she did not play in the game after wearing her anti-Trump shirt. She seems to just be looking for the attention.
