Michael Cohen Interviews the President, As Legal Analyst Delivers Stunning Take on Trump Conviction

In what is probably a rare move, President Donald Trump posted something from CNN on his Truth Social account. He usually takes a dim view of CNN, but it was easy to see why he would post what CNN legal analyst Elie Honig said here.

"And anyone who cheered that hush money prosecution to Donald Trump two years ago has nothing left to stand on," Honig asserted.

"Because now the star witness, the guy who is the reason why every prosecutor who looked at this case, including the Biden DOJ, the prior liberal Democratic DA, passed on charging this case, is because they didn't trust Michael Cohen beyond a reasonable doubt.

"Alvin Bragg rolled that dice. And now Michael Cohen has said publicly that he, quote, 'felt' --"

Tapper interrupted, "Felt."

Honig continued, "Felt pressured and coerced by prosecutors."

"So where do you stand on Michael Cohen now? If you believe he's a truth teller, then he felt pressured and coerced by prosecutors. That's not acceptable. If you believe he's a liar, then your case is built on a liar.

"So that case is going through its appeal process incredibly slowly. I think there are major legal infirmities with it. But now the factual predicate has collapsed as well."

Tapper declared it a "bad week for the resistance."

Honig has called out the problems in the case before, saying they "contorted" the law in the process of going after Trump.

The reason the discussion came up was that Trump was sitting down with Michael Cohen on his radio show on Thursday. That's probably not something anyone would have expected, given the attacks Cohen has made on Trump and his testimony. That showed tremendous forgiveness on Trump's part.

Cohen recalled:

"Do you remember, sir, when I went on CNN with Brianna Keilar, and she told me that you were underwater in the polls, and I responded with those famous two words, ‘says who,’ which became some worldwide meme?"

"And then they weaponized you like nobody's ever been weaponized, like few have been," Trump responded.

"Well, maybe just you and me, sir," Cohen said.

"Well, yeah, me too, but mine was at a level that nobody's ever seen before, but they weaponized you. They weaponized a lot of people."

Although Cohen has not legally recanted, Trump also recognized Cohen's pivot: "I respect the fact that you recanted everything you said. That's a big thing that you did."

They also discussed bad media polling, the border, and Iran. Cohen said there was a second part to the interview, which would air later.
