Watch: Dem Legislator Has Wild Exchange With Cop During TN Redistricting Battle

Things have not been going well of late for the Democrats in the redistricting battle.

As we reported earlier, they lost again, this time in Tennessee. The new map likely means the Democrats lost their only district. They created quite a scene in the legislature on Thursday, as my colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell explained:

Suffice to say, Democrats have not taken this well, but stopped short of chaining themselves to their legislative desks. As the vote was being cast and finalized, Democrat lawmakers and protesters in the gallery yelled, screamed, "No!" and "Shame!" and broke into profanity and chants.

Tennessee GOP Moves Fast After Supreme Court Ruling With Map Targeting Dem Seat

There was this special moment as one lawmaker had a bit of a tug-of-war battle with the Senate Sergeant at Arms over her banner, which read, "No Jim Crow 2 Stop the Steal."

The police were asked to clear the House gallery, after people were being disruptive.  WKRN reported that parachutes were thrown from the House gallery, and the fire alarm was pulled.

Some who allegedly would not leave were then removed by the police.

That's when things went even more sideways. That man being escorted out by the troopers was the brother of Tennessee state Rep. Justin Pearson (D-Memphis). The Democrat representative was not a happy camper. You can see and hear him losing it on a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper. He also makes contact with the trooper, appearing to push him away.

Warning for graphic language:

Then, Pearson screams profanity at the trooper, "Move the f*** back, boy! What the f*** is wrong with you?" Someone else calls the officer a pig. Then Pearson lets loose again, calling the trooper a "stupid motherf*****." I didn't see the officer do anything in that clip that merited that reaction. If anything, they appeared quite restrained and professional. He just appeared to be trying to move out Pearson's brother, despite Pearson inserting himself.

Pearson's behavior is off the rails, particularly when not leaving is basically a minimal infraction for his brother - unless you do something to make it worse. This isn't the way a sitting member of a state Legislature should be treating law enforcement. Pearson, though, has a history of scenes in the past. He was expelled for his actions during a protest for gun control in 2023, but was reinstated.

Democrats are finding out that this may backfire on them.
