President Donald Trump's nominee for Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, was just confirmed by the Senate.

The vote was 51-45.

Lutnick has been the chair and CEO of the investment firm Cantor Fitzgerald. Here's his inspiring story of how hard he and his company were hit on 9/11.

He's a big voice on trade. His business experience will likely be a great asset to the administration:

Lutnick said he aligns with Trump's "trade and tariff agenda" which seeks to remedy trade imbalances by imposing reciprocal tariffs. His confirmation indicates a milestone for Trump's "America First" policy agenda. [....]

"We are treated horribly by the global trading environment. They all have higher tariffs, non-tariff trade barriers and subsidies. They treat us poorly. We need to be treated better. We can use tariffs to create reciprocity," Lutnick said.

But in addition to having a secretary who is resilient and.has a "get it done approach" for the American people, Trump has one big idea that the American people will love to embrace. That is getting rid of the IRS, and Lutnick's a good influence on Trump on the subject.  Let's hear what Lutnick has to say on that. He talks about how politicians just take more and more of the taxpayers' money, through the "External Revenue Service."

When Trump was asked about this idea in the White House, when DOGE was going in to review the IRS, Lutnick chimed in about how ultimately they would like to get rid of the IRS. You can hear Lutnick saying "someday" in this video:

I think Lutnick would like it done yesterday. So, I think we can count on a big cutback on the IRS.

Now, we'd have to work out a lot of the parameters on the concept. I think any movement toward starting to shut it down, people would probably cheer. I think if Trump does that, he may just get his mug on Mount Rushmore.
