As I wrote earlier, I don't know what they were thinking when they made the schedule for the speakers on Day 1 of the DNC. It ran far too long, with folks like Sen. Raphael Warnock going on and on, and the program running very late. Joe Biden, who was supposed to be the featured speaker of the night, in what was supposed to be something of a wrap up of his 50 years in government was forty minutes late as a consequence. He was supposed to go on at 10:50 p.m. ET, he didn't go on until about 11:30 p.m.
But the excuse the DNC released to explain why Biden was pushed to such a late time was just ridiculous.
New DNC statement from convention officials explaining why the program ran so late tonight:

"Because of the raucous applause interrupting speaker after speaker, we ultimately skipped elements of our program to ensure we could get to President Biden as quickly as possible so that he could speak directly to the American people. We are proud of the electric atmosphere in our convention hall and proud that our convention is showcasing the broad and diverse coalition behind the Harris-Walz ticket throughout the week on and off the stage."
At least one person cut was James Taylor, who had been scheduled to be on between Jill Biden and Ashley Biden.
Now that's hilarious, but that's Democrats. They come up with a lame excuse every time they can't do things correctly. It wasn't electricity. Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) had to struggle to get a "We love Joe" chant going and then ended that pretty quickly.

That's electricity? They spent more time talking about Donald Trump than lauding Joe Biden. It showed how worried they are about him. There were no babies yelling for Joe, as some on CNN predicted.

There was some discussion of electricity by the time Joe Biden came on. But by then it was so late, in addition to all the slurring, stumbling, brain breaks, and lies I wrote about already, you got lines like this.

So we have two choices here in deciding what happened and why this was such a mess.
One they're too incompetent to be able to schedule things correctly and keep it on time and/or they were letting it run long because Biden was in awful shape and they were hoping few Americans as possible saw the speech.
Poll guru Nate Silver was among those people who wasn't buying it was just incompetence, as was News Nation's Leland Vittert.
The media is very East Coast focused though, you've gotta be pretty naive to think the prolonged DNC tonight is for any reason other than diminishing Biden’s visibility. https://t.co/LSd5DJzrON

At this rate @JoeBiden wont take stage @DNC #DNC2024 till well after 11p EST -- well past primetime - on Monday. I spent 4 years in the middle east...It trains you not to believe in coincidences

That's pretty sad that after more than 50 years in office that they not only shoved Biden out of the race contrary to the vote of the people, but to the late hour so far fewer people would hear him. It was already scheduled too late as it was, if you truly meant to honor him.
Once again, it shows they will throw anyone under the bus in the name of what helps them hold onto control.
But he also threw himself under the bus, as I noted, not taking the time to talk about his career or achievements, but to attack Trump and scream a raft full of lies.
It was a pretty sad ending to a complete failure.
