Nikki Haley has called for a competency test for people running for president who are over 75. That’s likely primarily directed at Joe Biden, although since she’s setting it at 75, she’s also trying to take a shot at former President Donald Trump.

Trump’s response was pure Trump. He embraced it and said bring it on, even broadening it out to everyone should take it.

“ANYBODY running for the Office of President of the United States should agree to take a full & complete Mental Competency Test simultaneously (or before!) with the announcement that he or she is running, & likewise, but to a somewhat lesser extent, agree to a test which would prove that you are physically capable of doing the job,” Trump wrote Feb. 21 on his Truth Social messaging platform.

“Being an outstanding President requires great mental acuity & physical stamina. If you don’t have these qualities or traits, it is likely you won’t succeed. MAGA!” he continued.

What’s Joe Biden’s response to the challenge to take a mental competency test? Well, we don’t have his response exactly, but we do have the response of his “handler,” “Dr.” Jill Biden.

Biden is over 80 now and would be 82 in January 2025, the oldest person to hold the office in history.

It’s “ridiculous,” Jill Biden said. “We would never even discuss something like that,” she said.

Jill Biden — whose full interview will air at ​9 p.m. Monday — pointed to the president’s surprise trip last month to Ukraine to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky to mark the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion as proof of the commander-in-chief’s stamina.

“How many 30-year-olds could travel to Poland, get on the train? Go nine more hours, go to Ukraine, meet with President Zelensky?” she said. “So, look at the man. Look what he’s doing. Look what he continues to do each and every day.”​

She said she was all for her husband running again.

Notice the differences in reaction between Biden and Trump. Just what the heck is “Dr.” Jill afraid of if her patient — I mean, her husband — is competent?

Of course, the problem is that we see his competency issues every day. He can’t even get through a speech without a problem, as we saw earlier with his speech in Selma on Sunday. In addition to the lying and the pandering, there was continuing confusion and incoherence in what he was trying to say about voting. No wonder she doesn’t want any competency test, she knows that he would be in deep trouble if there was one.

But if we didn’t already know how the test would turn out, her response tells us all we need to know.

She’s all for him running again? That’s just shameful at this point, given the condition he is in. We see this with Gisele Fetterman, and I don’t understand putting the person you supposedly love through this when they are not up to the job. Is the quest for power and attention that important? How insecure must you be? It’s worse because it’s not just hurtful to Biden, but it puts all the rest of us in danger as well.
